Perhaps, then, I should try to describe some of the roles I can recognize in myself.
I'm a goof. I don't take life or myself too seriously. I make fun of serious topics. Sometimes I engage in absurd or pseudo-philosophical discussions, debates and conversations.
I'm a vegan, because I love animals, and do not think that it is my place to impose my will on any living creature, especially in a way that restricts their freedom in any way. This includes humans as well, but that's where it gets murky. At times, my respect for personal freedom means that I have to allow others to violate the freedom of others. It is not quite as simple as that, and I'd love to discuss it, but this is not the place to get into all the hypothetical moral ambiguities :)
I am a geek. I love all kinds of games. Computer games, roleplaying games, tactical board games. And to a lesser degree, card games and such.
I'm into zen. I do not subscribe to any single school of thought, including faith, science, education or humanism. Existence is much more complicated than that. There is a lot of overlapping, and as such, all categories are desperate attempts at simplifying the universe. I do not see the need though, and will thus try to avoid categorizing anything. At the very least, I try to emphasize that trying to describe the universe with words is like trying to take from a cloud with a spoon.
I am a lover, and not specifically in a romantic sense. Perhaps even less so. I believe that in harming others we also harm ourselves. Therefore, I try to respect everything and everyone, even if it is hard. I try to negotiate differences. In general, I try to leave the world in a better state than it was when I was born. At least in my own modest surroundings.
I'm also not quite as beardy as these photos from 2010 would suggest.
If you want specifics, I've recently started my Creative Writing studies in the open university, and I'll be starting my second
year this fall.
Other than that, I'm just geeking around, mostly playing computer games but also looking for excuses to hang out with my wonderful friends, or doing something animal rights related. The latter usually in combination with the former.
Movies... A really complicated thing, really. At first, I found myself explaining the reasons for each individual movie I like, but that's not what this is about, is it. I like a lot of different things depending on my mood. Usually the movie just has to be honest to itself, whatever that means. If you want to compare notes, hit me with a message ;)
Shows. Okay, this is easier. Galactica, Babylon 5, Deadwood, Rome, Six Feet Under, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, 70s Show, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Monty Python, tralala. And so forth.
Music. My taste in music leans towards black metal, but I also enjoy good ambient, psy/goa trance, movie soundtracks... Anything that takes time to digest. I generally have to find my own meaning for a piece of music. That means that I have to listen to it enough (without getting bored!) to find it, and usually find that lyrics only serve to annoy me.
Food. Being vegan doesn't really restrict the types of foods I can eat. If anything, it has broadened my horizons far beyond the traditional Finnish potato/rice/pasta+meat kind of cooking. I'm still learning, and loving it. Baking can be fun too, and best when shared :)
5. Zen (listing it is kind of strange, since I don't know what it is, and suspect that it isn't anything at all, really, other than a way of existing and it happens naturally)
