My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
From New Jersey. Fought through four tough winters in Albany. Made it out to the bay area to set myself on the version of the "scientist" career path that goes through graduate school.

When I get away from the lab I try to keep moving. Typically I wind up trying to learn something new. I've managed to become something like a cyclist, have a few beer recipes sorted out, and finally figured out a backhand serve in squash. Someday I'll believe it when I tell myself I enjoy running.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Studying protein folding to financially support all the purchases of racquet strings, inner tubes, and grain.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Thinking I have a perfect idea of how something works. Too often I take a shot at fixing small issues with equipment around the lab at the expense of wrapping up an experiment in a timely manner. At least I know how to change my own oil. Still working up the courage to trust my ability to change the break pads.

Chirping up when somebody asks for help? Typically before they've finished asking for it. Maybe without them even asking? Maybe this should go in the "things I'm trying to improve" section.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I wish I could say I was enjoying Don Quixote less at the moment. It's been too long since I've run through the Hitchhiker's Guide.

A lot of movies are really great. Right now I'd really like to watch either a League of Their Own, Miracle, or Dr. Strangelove. Been a while since I've watched any of those. I'm not above the complete mindlessness of something along the lines of Anchorman. Die Hard is clearly the best christmas movie.

Music tends to be more of a background noise thing than a sought after activity. That said, the work play list invariably involves a lot of Talking Heads and Squeeze. Jamiroquai makes alarmingly frequent appearances, though that's mostly to pester other people.

Food is a lot like movies, how do you decide on just some favorites? I'm always trying to talk myself into liking oysters. I haven't had banh mi in forever. I have successfully deep fried 7 turkeys.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
"I should really dig up my cleats and get back to Ultimate."

Whether my timing belt is going to fail on me and cause the engine to tear itself apart.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Getting a squash match in after work and then heading to a place with a nice beer selection.

The devils will play just well enough to miss the playoffs AND get a terrible draft pick. At least the sharks are exciting to watch.

Its getting to the point that I can't use the weather as an excuse to stay off the road bike.

Depending on the tides, I may be trying to pull something out of the pacific ocean.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I would give up a lot of things for the ability to do a standing back flip. You could probably haggle me down to accepting a hand stand.

I routinely need to look up how to spell convenient.
