I'm from the other side of the world and moved to NY about 15 years ago. I love this city. It is constantly under pressure, but seems to survive all the same. I've been through 9/11, the blackout, subway strikes, 2 hurricanes, and still I stay. I thrive on being independent, but also love *real* connections with people. I can engage in idle chit chat at parties, but I have an extremely dry sense of humor and can sometimes offend Americans if they don't get it. So, I love it when I meet people with the same sense of humor. It keeps the craziness of this world manageable and light, rather than oppressive and dark.

I'm a person who gets a kick out of change. I get excited about almost anything, from an item of food that I'm eating to an amazing sight to behold...the mundane to the insane! There is nothing that I love more than landing in a country that I've never been to and fumbling my way on public transport to my ultimate destination.

I also really appreciate creativity in people, and dabble with making and playing my own music and writing projects. I am a left-leaning person and struggle with right-leaning beliefs that are self-focused rather than community-focused. I'm working hard to acknowledge that Republicans are people too but it is an uphill battle! My weaknesses are travel, rich and creamy food, and my potty mouth.

What I'm seeking in a person is someone who is spontaneous and unafraid of adventures or changes to routines. I value people, conversation, connections, and experiences considerably more than what someone owns. I also admire people who take risks in their lives, stick to their goals, and don't give up. And, I like to be around someone who can trash talk with the best of 'em!

I work as a researcher at a major hospital in the city. I like to ride my BMX around the city in the Summertime, go to gigs, and do yoga and meditation regularly. I love skiing and snowboarding but suck at both. I've recently started running for the first time in my life. Bring on the endorphins!

I like travel that's cruisy and travel that's more extreme. I've camped in the Nevada desert, hiked the Inca Trail, swum with dolphins in NZ. I want more!

I participated in NaNoWriMo last year and it kicked my ass!

I can knit a mean scarf, type really fast, mix records, sew a dress, snowboard badly, make a sloppy joe (from scratch!), chain punch, play piano, strum a guitar badly, speak a little Japanese and German, play poker

is my accent. Then they usually try to guess where I'm from and get it wrong 90% of the time...unless they've seen Flight of the Conchords. Then they say, "oh you're from there? I hear it's beautiful!" and I snigger under my breath.

I love love loved "The Elegance of the Hedghog" by Muriel Barbery and enjoy New Zealand author, Rachael King's books. The book "The Emperor of all Maladies" by Siddhartha Mukherjee was riveting and deserved the Pulitzer.
