All around klutz (check out these bruises); bicyclist and public
trans taker; camera carrier; cat-wrangler; champion for late night
conversation over hot beverages or interesting libations; feminist;
lover of odd numbers/numbered things; maker of a mean mac'n cheese
but don't expect me to clean the dishes; nerd (a bit of geek and
dork, too); righter of wrongs and doer of goods (or so I hope);
social scientist/researcher in the making; watcher; wearer of
hoodies.
Did I mention I like alphabetized lists?
Part-time
Sociology undergrad with a focus in
gender studies and sexuality and a minor in
Anthropology. By day I work for the
University I attend; I am a cog in the machine. Trying to figure
out what I will do with said degree when I graduate as I am not a
cog.
As for the day-to-day: trying to find beauty in the mundane;
learning to love the daily ins-n-outs; creating my own adventures;
trying to read a bike map and plot bike courses around the city
(after a year car free I am pretty ok at it now); trying to figure
out if I have any creative talents. And wandering; I love walking
about with the goal to be just to explore. Living, baby, living.
Causing
brouhahas. Finding reasons to use
words like brouhaha. Avoiding bill collectors. Tieing my shoes.
Washing my darks. Flossing. And other mundane daily tasks. Not
giving straight answers to things. Verbosity. Leaving my socks
lying around my apartment. Whipping stuff up in the kitchen, with
and without a recipe. Turning air into CO2.
Actually, I am rubbish when it comes to flossing. But I am good at
not taking myself too seriously.
My penchant for talking out loud to myself and blurting out what I
am thinking. And the bangs seem to get comments.
books...
Some fiction authors I have enjoyed over the years: Louisa May
Alcott, Douglas Adams, Orson Scott Card, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Neil
Gaiman, Wally Lamb, Joyce Carol Oates, Terry Pratchett, David
Sedaris. Most of the non-fiction I read focuses around society and
culture as well as gender and sexuality. Additionally I enjoy books
that focus on the environment in some way; from the food we eat to
the actual planet. My favourite
comic is
Sandman and
"The Little Prince" will
forever be one of the best books ever written.
movies...
When it comes to movies I feel like I waver between an all
consuming pop-culture trash hoor and an art house snob. I guess
what I am trying to say is I have rather varied tastes. I feel at
home at the Music Box’s midnight shows of trashy 80s films or at
their weeknight indie subtitled foreign films openings. I am a fan
of Science-Fiction/Fantasy, B/Cult, Comedies preferably of the
absurd variety, Horror and Psychological Thrillers (good ones), and
love me some documentaries. Random films I can watch at a moment’s
notice: Billy Elliot, Falling Down, Garden State, Heathers, Hunt
for Red October, A League of Their Own, Miracle Mile, The
Professional, Real Genius, The Royal Tenenbaums. Clearly that list
is the part of me that will watch anything and everything. My
favourite movie of all times is "
Student Bodies." If you know what
that is message me immediately.
music...
I love music. Really the only thing that could make it better is if
I could play it. Music is best enjoyed alone or with friends -
apply liberally at home or in social settings. As for types/genres:
90s
college
radio,
freestyle/house, Gypsy punk, horns,
industrial, Irish Punk, Italo disco, klezmer, lounge music, new
wave,
shoegazer,
strings,
twee. Can I
dance to it? If so I am probably down with it.

food...
Anything
spicy;
curries; chana masala; pho; noodles (in all forms); fish 'n chips
with malt vinegar, a side of curry sauce; breakfast any time of day
-
brunch!; anything
paired with a big
red
wine. I am trying to curb my dairy so a
dairy free pizza would be killer. And
while I am not a vegetarian I try to limit how often I eat meat. I
am always up for trying a new food or restaurant as it is a great
way to explore the city. And sushi with champagne!
All the friends, family, air, water needs aside (and that includes
Lucien the
Cat) I
think I could live without a lot of fluff. Some, just not a
lot.
1. Connection to others
2. Desire and passion
3. Information
4. Music
5. Not the same things to eat and drink (preferably due to
travel)
6. Public Trans/Bicycle
I just spend a lot of time thinking in general. I have tried, to no
avail, to turn this brain of mine off. Not that I am trying to say
that I am thinking deep thoughts here 24/7. It just seems to go
non-stop about something or another.
How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll
pop??? Will it rain tomorrow? The cat needs more food. Local vs
organic: what are the pros and cons? The cold side of the pillow
rules. Why is it most people on here are 5 miles from me?
Yeah, that is about what it is like in my head. The abridged
version.
Hanging out with friends. Watching one of my
torrents of
British TV;
Doctor Who perhaps? Riding my bike.
Reading or really
thinking about studying. Going out for
a pint maybe? Hanging with the gato.
Naps are nice, too.
Like every other day ending in Y I just let Friday happen.
If I am laughing real good I am known to snort.
