My self-summary
I tend to get along with most (types of) people. I’m a sort of artsy nerd athlete. Well, I wear those (and more) hats. I can earnestly talk about almost anything. I heart college football. I love the outdoors and will make up an excuse to get outside. I'm kind. I love almost all animals; spiders generally make it out of my house in a glass (mosquitoes are fair game). And yet, not vegetarian. Books are pouring out of my shelves (many of them read!). I’m pretty well versed in a ton of things, and it's never enough.

I've lived in 10 different cities in eight different states, stretching across the country. I've visited considerably more countries than that. My goal is to hit 50 by the time I'm 50 and I'm well on my way.

I frequently curse like a sailor with Tourrette’s, but not when it’s inappropriate, or as a substitute for "real" words. Kids are generally safe around me.

I’m huge on social justice, but I relish non-PC/off-color jokes. I don’t believe in innate evil, but do believe in innate goodness.

I’m always willing to laugh at myself over a variety of things. I'm doing it right now, in fact.

I think elegance is often found in simplicity.

In real life, I don't really dress like I do in these photos.

Knowing a good amount about a lot of things has never stopped me from being stupid. Not once.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a photographer, writer, occasionally (i.e., rarely) a musician, intellectual/philosopher, traveler, cook, and athlete. And I earn not a penny doing any of these things.
I’m really good at
Hmm... *really* good at? I'm pretty good at: writing, storytelling, creative problem-solving, trail (and road) running, digital photography, Galaga (BRING IT!), soccer, rock climbing, riding and working on my old motorcycle, critiquing movies (even shitty ones), traveling to remote, difficult places for a month at a time (next up, Kilimanjaro in September; then the Altiplano region in Bolivia? Turkey? Oklahoma?!*), shooting pool, snowboarding, fly fishing, cursing, reworking this question to suit my taste.

(*No, probably not the last one, unless it's to visit The Flaming Lips)
The first things people usually notice about me
That I'm dressed as a ninja, hiding above them. But y'know, they're not supposed to notice that. Kinda embarrassing now that I think about it.

Fuck, I dunno! You tell me. Unless it's mean. Then make something up.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
It'd be so true to just say "everything". That seems like a pretty lazy answer. I believe in "perfect albums", and there are so few of them. So music: everything from Buzzcocks & Operation Ivy & Slant 6 to Coltrane & Mingus to Radiohead & Flaming Lips to Tom Waits (a perennial favorite) to Bowie (ditto) to Mozart & Chopin to Jay-Z & NWA. Yup, that should about cover it. Edward and the Magnetic Zeroes' first album's been on rotation lately - yes, a few years too late. Lately, I've concluded that the Kinks may be the most underrated band of the 60s, if not all time. But KEXP keeps me posted, especially the old R&B that they play on late Sunday mornings. Damn, that sound is awesome.

Books? I have a lit degree, so I'll read Don Delillo and Pynchon and Garcia Marquez and Octavia Butler till I'm blue. I'm a comics geek and I love the graphic novel medium. I love a good pulp read (and a sort of guilty affection for lots of sci-fi, even when bad). I try to alternate between non-fiction and fiction. Lately I've been reading both at the same time. I think George R.R. Martin is an amazing storyteller, but I'm skeptical that he's going to finish the series (or do so well). Kinda surprised they made Cloud Atlas into a movie (by the Wachowski siblings and Tom Tykwer no less).

Same with movies, although I'm not so much a "chick-flick" fan. I'll take explosions/lasers over hackneyed love story any day, but I can skip both.

Hell, same with food and music. Generally, just gimme something good and I'll prolly like it.

I'm almost always up for something new and not afraid to try. Just don't give me anything too shitty.
The six things I could never do without
My dog
My people (I don't deserve them)
A good bookstore
The mountains and the sea
Good sushi
Good music (KEXP/KUOW/Pandora)
Travel to difficult places (i.e., my passport)

OK, that's 7. I cheated.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The book I may never write. Different career paths. Alternate universes & quantum theories.

Post-apocalyptic survival strategies. I'm already on a couple of end-of-the-world teams, so if you want me on yours, you gotta win me.

And making the world a slightly better place than how I found it.

Prolly some more stuff too.
On a typical Friday night I am
Up for anything, but not often out too late. I love my Saturdays too much.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I got an I, Anonymous published. And frankly, it was awesome (without being shameful).

And I just got a smart phone. *Now* I know what an "app" means. And it's not "appetizer". Crazy.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 27–38
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating, activity partners, long-distance penpals

You are (ideally):

Attractive, smart (smart is hot, of course); kind; confident but humble; interesting; independent; willing to teach me new things and maybe learn a thing or two; thoughtful; sensitive; daring; open-minded; occasionally meandering; funny; but also laughs easily (I’ll try to make it easy for you); someone who loves animals; trying to be somewhat healthy (with the occasional indulgence) and a bit active; honest; relatively drama-free (small carry-on baggage is OK); have a reasonably punk rawk attitude about a lot of stuff, but not too dismissive; and/or not all too politically conservative or all too religious.

No, I'm not expecting all of these things in one person. It's a grab-bag of favorable traits. So feel free to add some more good ones in.

I love meeting new friends and seeing what happens from there; easy peasy.
