I am open-minded, inquisitive, and dorky.

My Self-Summary

"The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experiences." -Eleanor Roosevelt

I decided to go back to college a few years ago and I have been enjoying it ever since. I'm hoping to finish my BA in Anthropology next year and find a career in Cultural Resource Management (professional archaeology). I'm attending UC, which has a great Anthropology department, in which archaeology is a sub-field.

I spend my free time hanging out with friends, learning about new cultures and people, reading, watching good and bad movies, enjoying the outdoors, and listening to music. I'm a firm believer that a good time is about who you're with and not what you're doing. I'm also a huge Red Wings fan.

I'm here to meet new people and to expand my experiences. I usually prefer to hang out with people that are laid back and easy going. Just about any setting is fine, as long as everyone is having a good time.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm currently attending UC. Only a year to go. This summer we were out in the real world for our field school, digging down at Shawnee Lookout. It was a lot of fun and very informative.

I work at a retail store owned by some friends of mine, so I'm able to schedule my hours around my classes rather easily. I am also looking for an entry level position in CRM to try and get my foot in the door before graduation.

At some point I hope to start learning how to play guitar, but that seems to keep getting pushed back.

I’m really good at

I pride myself on my loyalty to my friends and family. I always try to be there for them when they need me, because I know they would do the same. I have been told that I'm entertaining, as long as we share humor preferences, i.e. sarcasm. I consider myself a good listener, because I actually listen and take an interest in other people's thoughts and ideas. Revolutionary, I know.

The first things people usually notice about me

Probably that I'm having a good time and odds are so are the people I'm hanging out with. Physically, most people probably notice my eyes, a lovely shade of blue, my smile, or my laugh. Feel free to let me know if you happen to notice something else first.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: I love reading. I'll read most nonfiction that isn't too extreme, i.e. extremely political or religious. Some books that I've read over the last couple of years that I enjoyed are: Being Dharma (not the TV character), God Is Red, Reconciliation: Islam, Democracy, and the West; The Song of Ice and Fire series, and Business Anthropology. I'm currently reading Guns, Germs, and Steel.

Movies: Zombieland, Miracle at St. Anna, Star Trek, Religulous, Watchmen, What Dreams May Come, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Iron Man, Star Wars (IV, V, and VI), Batman Begins and Dark Knight, Last Samurai, Black Hawk Down, Princess Bride, 300, Seven Samurai, Boondock Saints, Man on Fire, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Donnie Darko, Jurassic Park, Hero, Three to Tango, Shaun of the Dead, The Ghost and the Darkness, Dogma, and many more.

Music: Kings of Leon, The Script, One Republic, Michael Jacobs, Tartan Terrors, Flogging Molly, Tom Petty, AFI, ATB, Timo Maas, Paul Oakenfold, Breaking Benjamin, Dave Matthews Band, Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, DJ Tiesto, The Killers, Maroon 5, Royksopp, Sneaker Pimps, Underworld, and just about anything actually. I've recently learned that I really like live country music. Go figure.

Food: I love food. I like trying new foods as well as enjoying an old favorite. If I had to pick a favorite, I would choose Fettuccine Alfredo with either shrimp or chicken. Odds are, if it involves chicken, I'll like it.

The six things I could never do without

Books- I love to read and I think its one of the best ways to learn something new.

Music- My favorite form of expression. I love to lose myself in a good song. Any worries or doubts I have just seem to melt away. Plus, it is necessary for dancing.

Movies- Sometimes I just want to relax and they're a great escape for a couple of hours.

Family- I wouldn't give up my family for anything. My mom has always been there for me and my extended family is always entertaining.

Friends- These are the people that I have fun with and can depend on. Life would be boring without my friends and they keep me in check when I get out of hand.

Humor- Life would be utterly depressing without it. Its what keeps us sane. Who doesn't enjoy a good joke when they're feeling down?

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Most of my time is spent thinking about college, i.e. assignments, class schedules, when I'm going to graduate. I also like to think about the world's problems and try to come up with solutions. I'm probably not going to come up with anything better than anyone else, but I find it helps me to expand my thinking, which helps me in everyday life.

On a typical Friday night I am

Working. I don't work terribly late, usually to around 10pm, so I still have time to enjoy the night. Unfortunately, most of my friends don't do anything on Fridays, so if I do go out I'm on my own.

Saturdays are my busy days. I roam from one group of friends to another. Sometimes I end up at a random bar (hopefully with decent music), other times I'm just hanging out at work with my work friends, and occasionally I'll end up at some friends' house playing Wii or watching movies.

I also try to get out during the week. I'm exhausted the next morning during class, but its worth it.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

So if I reveal something here, does that mean its no longer private? In which case I'm not revealing anything private and I have to type something else in? I'm not going to create that paradox. The universe hates paradoxes and might get upset with me. The last thing I need is to piss off the whole universe.

You should message me if

...you want to talk with someone that isn't close minded and likes the idea of new experiences.

...you share the idea that the world is a fascinating place that yearns to be explored.

...anything I've written so far seems interesting, or you just want to know what the heck I'm talking about.

...you enjoy meeting new and interesting people. I myself am interesting people. :)

...you've read this far and I've put a smile on your face.
