My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
So you know those people that are really dedicated to one particular passion? I am NOT that person. I used to feel like I was missing out on something, but have come to terms with being mediocre at lots of things (a non-exhaustive list: hiking/backpacking, sailing, traveling, playing softball, knitting, writing with parentheses, singing, skiing, cooking, playing ukulele, learning new crafts...)

I like to think that I'm a sincere and solid friend who is good at bringing people together. And I'm a terrible liar - for better or for worse - so that keeps me honest. I'm an expert at laughing at the ridiculousness that life tosses our way (I often find myself asking, "is this real life?").

I kind of love doing unexpected things and trusting that it'll all work out. It pretty much always does.

And this is probably popping up on every girl's profile, but it's so good (except that you probably SHOULD date a girl who travels...especially if you want to date me, because I usually go away about once a month): But be warned that the whole independence thing is all too true. I can pitch my own damn tent, thank-you-very-much.

And why am I here? (here as in the internet dating world, that is.) Despite my independence warning above, I'm looking for a relationship.
I said it.
So you commitment-phobes.... I know you're out there.... can just carry on and not waste my time (zing!).
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Yes, I live in Cambridge. Yes, I think I look younger than I am. Until recently I loved answering a resounding "no" to the question, "are you a student?"

I'm a student.

I'm an engineer, working on drinking water treatment in developing countries (yes, I'm one of those). And man... I can't believe they pay me to do this stuff.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
misplacing my keys two minutes before I walk out the door.
US geography.
judging when a suitcase is exactly 50 lbs.
carrying said 50-lb suitcase up and down 2 flights of stairs.
packing light.*

And I also sleep like a champ.

* yes, I understand the irony. The heavy stuff is work equipment.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
you can probably guess what i'm thinking based on my facial expression. I'm the one that usually looks like the lost kid in the middle of the department store, so some employee tries to save me by asking, "can I help you find something?"
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Not much of a TV or movie watcher. Don't get me wrong; I enjoy a good movie. I just don't go out of my way to see them, and if you expect me to know who an actor is, you will be sorely disappointed. I do sometimes think that I live in a pop-culture black hole.

but food! i love food. I make my own granola, bread, and yogurt (yes, I'm also one of those). I often find myself craving spinach (is that normal?). other things in no particular order: cheddar cheese, mustard, dark chocolate, plantains, eggs, sushi, freshly-made corn tortillas, and garlic.
i adore cooking for people and trying new recipes. I once had a boss who used to say, "barriga llena, corazon contenta" ("full belly, happy heart"). I think that's true.

I also love, love, love going to see live music. Folk, bluegrass, roots, americana stuff mostly. But I'll own up to the fact that I think madonna and justin timberlake are both part genius.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
my bike (otherwise getting anywhere would take way longer).
water (for drinking, swimming in, sailing on, or hell, just staring at).
laughter with good friends and family.
tied: chocolate, coffee, beer.
time to myself.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What is the least-crowded time to go to market basket.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I suppose there are three categories:
(a) Drinking beer with friends. (b) heading out of town. (c) staying home.

hmmm. vague... but accurate.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I judge people based on their shoes.
I came to this realization one day, and then months later read a story written by a stripper where she said the exact same thing. See? There's something to it.
