I am nerdy, peaceful, and independent.

My Self-Summary

I'm a laid-back sort of guy with hobbies both geeky and mundane. I'm a musician, a gamer, a philosopher, an anime fan, and I oscillate between being a slob and being a snob. I may, for example, decide that I really like tea, go all-out in buying loose leaf tea and implements for brewing it properly, then get a little sick of the hassle and switch partially to plain tea bags. (This has happened.)

What I’m doing with my life

I work for the NY state government. It's not exciting or interesting to talk about, but it has great job security, potential for advancement, benefits, etc.

I’m really good at

Writing about a minute's worth of a song, then being unable to do anything else with it. Although I'm getting better at putting in the effort to extending my stuff into longer works.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books - I don't read as much as I "should", but I liked John Dies at the End, Chuck Palahniuk's books (e.g. Fight Club, Choke), Douglas Adams, and Tolkein.

Movies - I'm willing to give basically anything a try, though I tend to like comedy (Robin Hood: Men in Tights), fast-paced martial arts (Jackie Chan), other action (Die Hard), and pop classics (Back to the Future) more than other genres.

Music - I like a variety of music, from metal to disco to j-pop to nerd music. I'm okay with many different styles, even rap and country! As long as it isn't literally just talking over a beat -- some actual music going on underneath the rapping is key. My favorites? Opeth, Blind Guardian, In Flames, and Origa. I write music as well.

Food - I probably enjoy Italian food more than anything else, but I like to try foods I've never had before (especially if I've never had anything from that type of cuisine, like Ethiopian or Korean). I'm also a big fan of Chinese food, and lately, Indian food. I'm vegetarian-curious but will never convert fully.

TV shows - I don't actually get any kind of cable or satellite service; I just look up shows on youtube or elsewhere on the internet if I want to see them. That being said, I love/loved Good Eats, Seinfeld, the first 7/8 seasons of the Simpsons, and Azumanga Daioh.

Games - JRPGS and exploratory action games (Super Metroid/Cave Story) tend to be my favorites.

The six things I could never do without

My hobbies, my job (in the sense that I would go insane if I had to stay in retail forever), quiet time to relax/recharge, the internet, ideas, healthy food, unhealthy food, and an inability to count correctly.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

What to do if the little old lady in front of me in the grocery line tries to sucker-punch me.

On a typical Friday night I am

Getting tossed around like a ragdoll by people half my size at the self-defense class I'm taking. It's lots of fun!

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I hate big parties. Hanging out with individuals or in small groups is nice, but stick me in a room where I barely know 1% of the people and the only reason I'm still there is to be polite to whoever invited me.

You should message me if

You're between, say, 22 and 32 years old (granting leeway for people a little older if they're sufficiently immature) and can say something more than "hi"? It's just a little hard to respond to a plain hello, sorry. No judgment involved.
