I am silly, nerdy, and brutally honest.
My Self-Summary
I'm a
nerd that grew
up in NJ, lived in
Socorro, NM for ten years and then
moved to Bellevue in 2008. Cooking and eating are my favorite
hobby, but I also knit and enjoy
Jeep and home-maintenance crafts.
I'm a
Taoist who
gets a little more riled up about some things than is really in
character for a Taoist. I'm very pro
civil-liberties. I'm
antitheist, very
anti-neocon,
and
left-leaning. I like
hyphenated-words.
I have a
livejournal that I used to write
stuff in often, but my posting frequency has tapered off
considerably. My username over there is "jaberwockynmt". I use
twitter very
(too?) often; I'm "jaberwocky" over there. I write reviews (mostly
restaurants) on
yelp
very often: http://jarrodlombardo.yelp.com/
What I’m doing with my life
Right now, I'm developing software prototypes contracting at
Microsoft and
running a small temporary help service I started.
I really enjoy having conversations about lots of stuff,
politics,
sociology and
religion being big topics with
me.
I'm in one poly "network" relationship currently and have had
others. I've been with my unmarried spouse for almost 4 years.
lalabob11 supports
me having other partners and I support her similarly (she's got 2
other boys currently); we are open and honest with each
other.
I've also got something intense going on with
ladyfelakura, but we're both not
really sure what it is or where it's going.
I'm involved with some of the area swinger community, but nothing
serious has happened with anyone from there.
Polyamory and
swinging turns a lot of people off, so
I want to be open with you all about it.
I'm interested in making more friends generally, but also in
finding a steady second girlfriend.
lalabob11 is
child-free, but I'd like to have
children eventually, so finding a partner interested in having
children as part of a cohabitating poly family is a long-term goal.
I’m really good at
I have great fun cooking, and people say I'm good at it. I don't
really think I'm good; I'm just better than many people I
encounter. I never really learned to cook; it just kinda happened
naturally. I'm not afraid to try the sometimes crazy recipe ideas
that come to me.
I'm great at fast-thinking
problem solving. I like to go to
fan
conventions to work on the
troubleshooting staffs so I can
run around the whole con fixing things.
I am really good at figuring out relatively complicated topology
involved in some knitting.
The first things people usually notice about me
I turn out to be pretty
objective and open to others'
opinions, but at first most people think I am kind of closed and
stubborn. People probably notice my especially silly beard more
that that though.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
This is such a broad category. Listing things here would limit me
far more than not listing them as my tastes are all over the
place.
To be self-contradictory, now I'm gonna list some things:
My favorite movies are
Blade Runner,
Ikiru, and Heat. I've seen easily
over 1000 movies in my lifetime, but most of them are pre-2000; I
haven't had as much time to watch new stuff since then.
I haven't had television service (cable, satellite, or antenna)
since 2005, and I really like it this way. I do like to watch a few
shows though (
Dr.
Who universe,
Battlestar Galactica,
Top
Gear).
I am the only intelligent person I know that dislikes the act of
reading. I love gaining information. I love learning stories. I
just can't stand the interface of reading; it's so frustratingly
slow compared to thinking. I mostly read non-fiction; my favorite
non-fiction book is probably
Beyond Fear by Bruce Schneier.
There's fiction I've liked too though: Kurt Vonnegut (I've read
90+% of his work), Douglas Adams, Robert Jordan, Terry Pratchett
(I'm in the process of reading all of DiscWorld), Steven King, some
but not most Asimov.
I really like
prog
rock (the
Hammond organ is my favorite rock
instrument) and also
turntablism. That said, my favorite
bands are
The Who
and
Underworld,
which fall in neither of those genres.
I eat everything. I like to try everything twice (it might have
been "off" the first time). My tastes lean toward Asian foods, but
I really enjoy the European, American, and African stuff I've had
too.
The six things I could never do without
1.
Snuggling.
(I've lived without, but I was quite depressed during those
periods.) 2. My
glasses. I really like to see things. 3.
Comfortable sneakers. I
like to walk a lot, and comfortable sneakers are a must. 4.
Semicolons;
they are an integral part of my writing style. 5. Listing things is
hard....
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to survive.
Ethics and how so few people seem to really strive to be ethical.
On a typical Friday night I am
Before I left NM it was "Hosting a party/watching movies with about
15 other people." Now it's more catch as catch can, with some
nights quiet at home and some out doing something with lots of
people.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I don't really have private things, so I don't know what to put
here. I am really open, and will honestly answer any question posed
to me.
You should message me if
You have any questions and want to discuss them, or are very silly
and want to do strange things.
