I am pierced, omnivorous, and nocturnal.

My Self-Summary

Ok... Where to begin... My name's Thomas. That seems like a pretty safe place to start. I'm into music, films/TV, skiing, plus all the usual 'going out/seeing friends/sleeping/eating/etc' stuff.

Musically, I'm very much in the mixed-bag category. Hip-hop, trip-hop, house, rock, indie, alternative, random weird stuff, anything I like the sound of, to be honest. And yes, that does mean there are a few slightly... incongruous pop songs in there, and Johnny Cash flying the flag for country music, but what can I say? If I like the song, I like the song.

I have a not particularly exciting job working for a friend's web retail business, but it pays the bills and it's indoor work, with friends, with no heavy lifting, so can't complain. I do some freelance writing work on the side, which helps keep me a bit more sane.

Oh, and I have a tongue piercing, if that makes a difference to anyone one way or the other. Hopefully no-one reading this considers it their holy quest to do unspeakable things to everyone with piercings they can find. Unless they're 'porn unspeakable' things, rather than 'horror movie unspeakable' things, of course.

What I’m doing with my life

Working, which is not particularly exciting. Playing collectible card games, which is occasionally exciting, occasionally frustrating, and does a good job of keeping my brain working.

Occasionally doing online coverage of card game tournaments, which is tiring work (mainly due to the often 14-15 hour days with few breaks) but does also involve being paid to fly to fun places. Most recently (October '09) returned from Austin, Texas, which was a lot of fun, although the joys of October sunshine were somewhat tempered by the evil, evil mosquitos turning me into a buffet.

Have just managed to fix my long-broken exercise bike, so with any luck getting in better shape!

I’m really good at

Hmmm. Really good at... Procrastinating. Sarcastic comments. Not having a body clock to speak of. Winging essays/exams with minimal preparation (sadly not as useful since I left university...) I apparently write well - I held down a weekly web column of 3-5,000 words for around 6 months, before deciding it was taking up too much of my time, but have since done the aforementioned event coverage for the same company.

The first things people usually notice about me

I have absolutely no idea, you'd have to ask them. Probably depends on what I'm wearing, where I am, what I'm doing. I've had a couple of people say my eyes, but other than that, I don't really know. Or, if I'm speaking, apparently I have a nice voice. One of these days enough people will have told me I should do radio/voice work for me to actually start thinking about it seriously.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Films; Virgin Suicides, Kill Bill vol 1+2, Donnie Darko, Silence of the Lambs, Secretary, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. More recently than I made this original list, District 9.

Books; Good Omens (Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman), Ender's Game (Orson Scott Card), Dune (Frank Herbert), The Player of Games (Iain M Banks), Watchmen (Alan Moore), Death: The High Cost of Living (Neil Gaiman). A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin, who needs to hurry the hell up and finish some more books! And Neuromancer by William Gibson, which I have just reread and is still just as damn good as it was when I first read it however many years ago.

Music; Dilated Peoples, X-Ecutioners, Nas, Gang Starr, Black Star, Muse, Razorlight, Massive Attack, Portishead, 2 Many DJs, Lovage, Rage Against the Machine, Handsome Boy Modelling School, Deltron 3030, Gorillaz, Spiritualized, The Roots, Radiohead, The Prodigy, PJ Harvey, Princess Superstar, Outkast, Libertines, Garbage, Franz Ferdinand, Elysian Fields, Amy Winehouse, Bjork, Florence & the Machine, La Roux, Talib Kweli, MGMT, Klaxons, assorted mashups, Wu-Tang Clan, Immortal Technique

Food; Chinese, Indian, Italian, French, Japanese, if it's food and well-cooked I'm generally a happy bunny.

You should message me if

You want to? Not too bothered why, if you want to chat about something, ask me something, insult my taste in films/music, propose marriage...
