I am bizarre, friendly, and interested.

My Self-Summary

I'm not a hero, or a savior (forget what you know). I'm just a man whose circumstances went beyond his control.
Now in Spanish
Limpie el camino de pajas que yo me quiero sentar en aquel tronco que veo y asi no puedo llegar.
Now in French
A la tele, y'a plus de speakerine
Y'a des films de serie B que j'estime a quinze centimes
Les States nous plaquent ces films de trois piecettes
Que je mate, mais mon intellect constate qu'ils sont OBSOLETES.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm currently getting a PhD in Comparative Literature. I teach classes and I also work at a University Press. In other words, I read all the time. I'm also a wannabe writer and translator. Other than that, I'm learning how to cook and how to take care of my ficus tree.

I’m really good at

Suspending my disbelief.

The first things people usually notice about me

How painfully thin I am, then maybe that I need to pluck my eyebrows. Or the permanently confused look on my face.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I have strong opinions, so its hard for me to pick favorites. As far as books, don't get me started... well okay. I like Borges alot, and Stendahl is a recent favorite. I study medieval lit, so I think I still like that too. Also love poetry from everywhere. And good SF and fantasy.
This was a great year for movies, so I'll limit my answer to Dark Knight and Wall-E.
I used to be much more into current music, now I'm listening mainly to 80s and 90s, stuff like Pixies, the Smiths, Police, U2, Cranberries, Joy Division/New Order, Prince, Sade, etc.
I love all food, from everywhere in the world. I'm also pretty adventurous when it comes to cuisine.

The six things I could never do without

I could do without most things... depends on the situation. Right now, living where I live in the circumstances I live in...

1. A good book
2. A french press
3. A turntable
4. My tarot deck
5. A pair of shoes
6. A good coat

I spend a lot of time thinking about

What it means to live a good life, how to be a good person, what makes us human, how we relate to the world, how we can coexist with the environment, what makes literature and art good, whether magic works, whether mysticism is still possible, whether religion is dead, how i can have better sex, what the nature of revolution is, whether mythology is still relevent, why there is no good new music, how we can be individuals and live in society, how I can make better food, how others impact the world, how I can impact the world, what the nature of language is, how translation is possible, why squirrels are my totem animal.

On a typical Friday night I am

Getting my reading done, grading, or out with friends.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I am pretentious and terrified of failure.

You should message me if

you can figure out how to...
