I am distracted cat, geeky cat, and not on fire.
My Self-Summary
I am myself, and all parts of me are myself. I'm really not trying
to be twee, I'm just trying to explain that I contain multitudes
without trying to sound self-excusing or, again, twee.
Things to know, that you'd know within like 10 minutes of meeting
me but whatever:
* I'm geeky. I primarily like making things go better, so I'm
currently big on
Greasemonkey and
PHP. I also like projects, which
is how I learned so much
SQL.
That and databases are wicked pretty, omg. Have you SEEN them? Have
you USED them? Chances are your data's been languishing away in
some poor Excel spreadsheet, when they could be in a proper
DATABASE you see, and... um...
* I knit. More, I love yarn, and knitting helps me use it up so I'm
not overwhelmed. That's the theory.
* I'm polyamorous. I'm in two relationships - one with
rosefox and one with
Josh (not on OKC). I am also dating the devil, in a
long-distance fashion (which is perhaps obvious).
I like them. I try to remember they're not food.
* I am an atheist and uncaring about it, I'm bisexual and of-course
about it, and I am a feminist and very caring about it. You will
get nowhere with me if you have a tendency towards misogynistic
humour or sensibilities.
* I'm an introvert with social needs. This means I have to
fight tooth and nail to get out of the house to go be around
people. I generally prefer to control my levels of human
interaction, which means either I stay at home or I go to a
bar.
* I have a short fuse for being agitated and am not good when I'm
frustrated. I'm working on that.
* I am scatterbrained and generalised-anxiety-disordered.
This likely contributes to not getting out of the house much.
This ties into the geeky bits - current rediscovery has been
armorgames.com. This means that I am terrible for maintaining
human contact - you have been warned.
* Things I've been interested in recently: creating a decent
open-source checkbook that works with Bank of America's program
that rounds up, crimping beads and PHP, putting invoice data in a
database where it belongs, icing my arms, and general financial
management.
I'm not actually very good at listing things like that, because I
get distracted contemplating the criteria for the list and trying
to remember things that would go in the list and then either I have
the best list ever after a day of hyperfocusing or I've lost
interest.
What I’m doing with my life
I vacillate between self-improvement and contemplating the
neverending desert that is the purposeless life. Like one does.
I’m really good at
* Learning things quickly, if I'm interested.
* Being socially smooth. (A nice side-effect to being
socially anxious is I'm good with etiquette.)
* Coming up with an arbitrary fraction for the frequency of things,
and having it already be reduced to its LCD. Frex: "99 out of 103
times, I am not on fire!"
* Singing true to the key of the original song without having to
have it play.
* Knitting.
* Spelling words backwards faster than other people.
Apparently.
* Being distracted.
* Finding the right path through a crowd to maximise speed and
minimise running into people.
The first things people usually notice about me
I have no earthly clue. I'm told my eyes are nice. Maybe it's that
I get distracted? I dunno.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
(a) I'm overly enamoured of science fiction, if that's useful to
you. And I have a huge weakness for Star Trek: The Original
Series fanfic books. I'm currently more into manuals, and
whatever really interesting books look at me funny.
AIEE BUT DRESDEN FILES AND THERE ARE MORE BOOKS COMING OUT AND I
MAY DIE OF ANTICIPATION
(b) Hudson Hawk,
UHF,
Blazing Saddles, Big Trouble in Little China, Ghostbusters, Pan's
Labyrinth... uhm... hell. If you were on Netflix, I could
just show you that. I am particular about my comedy, and tend
to like action flicks and science fiction shows.
(c) Music I can sing to, first. Then music that has a good
beat and is interesting. Sooo, rock music, with a bunch of
miscellany thrown in for good measure. Currently I am in
hearts with Muse, though I'm rediscovering my hearts-on for
ELO.
Did you know Alice In Chains put out a new album? It's not
bad!
(d) Whatever goes in my belly and supplies me with fuel.
(Coffee and beer do not count as food.)
The six things I could never do without
Oxygen.
Cellular cohesion.
Fuel. The third dimension. Consciousness.
Senses.
I have this pet peeve about using "need" and its ilk
inappropriately, you may have noticed.
More news and Les Nessman: the internet, my brain meds, good music,
a hoppy beer, and friends.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Whatever I'm thinking about, tautologically enough.
Mostly, I'm thinking about what I'm doing, what I should be doing,
what I want to be doing, and any possible tangent that could
possibly be associated with any of those things.
Remind me to tell you about how I got from doing dishes to the heat
death of the universe.
On a typical Friday night I am
I'm usually running errands, or spending time where the internet
is, or gaming, or not bursting into flames.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Mi nekonas Esperanto, sed klopodanta lerni. (For example, that
sentence.)
You should message me if
* ...you understand and agree with this sentiment:
Rather than meeting people who want to date and hoping that
they're interesting, you should spend your time meeting people who
are interesting and hoping that they want to date. That way, even
if it doesn't work out, at least you're meeting interesting
people.
* ...you have something interesting to contribute. I don't get out
much, and I don't care for idle chatter unless I know you well or
I'm forced to interact socially.
(If you're reading this because I sent you a message, then you can
safely disregard this entire section.)
