My Self-Summary
Oh, where to begin? I obviously love movies particularly indie film and gay cinema. I was in a relationship for 18 years that fell apart in January of 2003. Looking again for Mr. Right version 2.0. I love to laugh and make others laugh and I'll say just about anything to get a laugh, so don't take me too seriously if I say something outlandish. I'm fiercely loyal to my friends. I've always worked in the nonprofit sector because I think it is more important to work to make the world a better place than to make investors rich. But I'm not a radical tree-hugger (I think balance is important).

I'm a caring, giving guy who thinks that "Honey, I'm home" are the greatest words ever spoken. I've had some really great times in my life, and some less-than-stellar times. I've tried to learn from all of them. I'm lucky to belong to several great families (blood, occupational, fraternal, chosen, etc.) all of whom give me great strength and support. Sharing life experiences, creating memories together with that "special guy" is an amazing thing that I relish and miss. I'd like to find someone who would enjoy making great memories with me.

I'm the son of a Southern Baptist minister (who became a college professor when I was 5). While dad was getting his Masters of Divinity my mom was getting her Masters of Religious Education (they wouldn't let a woman get an M.Div. at the time). She also became a college professor. Despite this "very religious" upbringing, my beliefs are "my own". I'm not vain enough to believe humans are the greatest thing in the universe, but don't think that there's some omnipotent/omniscient god-like being that requires we worship it.

I am giving, courteous, and caring

What I’m doing with my life
Working on starting a nonprofit organization whose mission is providing technical support to small nonprofits who can't afford their own IT staff. It's a struggle. I'm not much of an entrepreneur but I'm dedicated.

I’m really good at
Flirting. Being funny. My job. Being a loyal friend. Helping others who are in need. I've been described as "a fixer" ... someone who, when they see something broken, has a compulsion to fix it. This includes things like the faucet in my apartment (although the landlord should be getting it fixed) and even things I find in public (a poster that's peeling of a lamp post that I'll try to reattach. Whenever a friend as a computer problem they know that I'll do my best to get it working the way they want it.

I enjoy caring for animals. Have always had at least 2 cats in my household. Haven't had a dog since I was a kid. Had an African Grey parrot for a while. Had a large aquarium until I moved to MN. I love all animals.

I'm also celebrating getting my OKCupid all the way to 100%! :)

My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: I read for a while in bed almost every night before turning out the light. Mostly gay murder mysteries. Enjoy Crichton/Grisham/Rowling page-turners. My most recent "rave review" is for Little Brother by Cory Doctrow (read it for free online). My all-time favorite book is The Movie Lover, by Richard Friedel.

Films: Victor/Victoria; SOB; The Ritz; Beautiful Thing; Get Real; Little Voice; Kinky Boots; Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss; Parting Glances, etc.

TV: Fawlty Towers; My Family: Gimme Gimme Gimme; Coupling; 'Allo 'Allo; The High Life; Vicar of Dibley; AbFab (noticing a trend here?)

Music: R&B and just about everything except country/western and rap/hiphop.

More general "categories" of things I enjoy:
Gay films, indie film, britcoms, zoos, aquariums, museums(art/history/science/childrens), consumer & commercial tech (geeky stuff), NPR, travel, cooking. Have a massive collection of VHS, Laserdisc & DVD(about to plunge into Blu-Ray). I also enjoy doing home improvement/repair.
