Hi, my name is Jon! I'm from a small town in South Jersey and I moved out to LA a couple of years ago for graduate school. It hasn't been hard to adjust, because LA is basically a big suburb...just like Jersey. The only noteworthy differences are the palm trees, beautiful weather, and an indigenous population that doesn't understand sarcasm. The first two differences are undeniably awesome, but the last one is unfortunate. I come from a mixed background and some people think that my ethnicity is ambiguous. To save you the trouble of guessing, I'm half black and half Italian.

Things I'm Into:
playing tennis, jammin on my guitars, cooking, gelato, good food, dancing (especially hip-hop, but I can get down to almost anything), throwing parties, hiking/camping, watching documentaries on the Discovery Channel or the History Channel, staying up on current events (I mostly watch MSNBC or read Newsweek for this). I know, I'm a nerd :-(

Things I'm Not Into:
pretentious people, drugs (no judgment, just not my thing), extremism/fundamentalism of any kind.

I'm currently in a clinical psychology Ph.D program. No, I'm not going to "psychoanalyze" you...unless you pay me. I don't work for free! ;-) I'm particularly interested in forensic psychology and I plan on pursuing a career as a forensic assessor after I graduate.

People naturally notice my incredibly good looks and award winning personality...haha. Ok, I'll try to be serious here. Some people notice that I say some words with a Philadelphia accent. I grew up 15 minutes away from the city, so I can't help it. Other than that, it's anybody's guess.

The Bible , The Giver by Lois Lowry and London by Edward Rutherford , Emergency by Neil Strauss , Anything by Jared Diamond. Any well written history book on one of the following topics (Italy, Rome, Religion, Western Civilization)

Movies:
Crash , Sin City , Silence of the Lambs , A Beautiful Mind , American History X , Braveheart , The Dark Knight , Starsky & Hutch , Old School , Gladiator , Any 80s action movie...they're so bad, they're good.

TV:
Dexter , The Sopranos , Entourage , Rome , South Park , The Wire , and Hardball w/ Chris Matthews. I also watch some of the reality TV trash on VH1 (feel free to make fun of me).

Music:
Dave Matthews Band, In Flames , Metallica , Ozzy, Aerosmith , Journey , Dr. Dre , Israel & New Breed , Luciano Pavarotti , Goldfinger , Blink-182 , Killswitch Engage. I like something from pretty much every genre from hip-hop to classical and if I haven't heard it yet, I'll at least give it a listen.

Food:
Italian, Indian, sushi, and soul are my favorites, but I'm into a lot of different types of food and will try anything at least once. I think seafood is excellent.

I'll limit this to things, as opposed to people. A purpose in life, my car, a job, music, good food, cell phone, and unfortunately, I'm reluctant to admit this, the internet.

How I can use my skills to make a positive impact on the world. What am I going to eat next.

Checking out a new restaurant in LA, hanging out with other grad students or hitting up a club/bar in Santa Monica or Culver City. On a really great night, I'm doing all three of these things.
