I am warm, practical-ish, and kind.

My Self-Summary

I suppose I'd call myself a geek; I'm enthusiastic about all sorts of dorky stuff, but not really a master of any of 'em. Beyond that, I've got a fairly dry sense of humor, a tendency to over-think and explain puns (I don't care if it ruins the joke, I get a kick out of it), and am easily distracted by shiny objects. I'm fairly quiet when I first meet a new person, but once I get over the whole "omg new ppl!" phase, I'm open, friendly, and occasionally funny. Wikipedia is my boredom outlet. I enjoy hard work, something which my parents (especially my dad) ingrained in me. I'm an athiest (honestly, more of a humanist), but I try not to judge anyone based on their beliefs. Except for the really, really wacky ones; they scare me.

What I’m doing with my life

I'll be attending SIU next year, in an attempt to finally, really do the college thing; I've had trouble with it in the past, mostly because I'm an idiot. The original Greek usage, I mean. Currently, I'm doing my best to adjust to living on my own; getting used to Ramen is definitely the hardest. I'm working a couple of jobs to make ends meet, and mentally preparing myself for college next year. Other than that, I'm pretty much just hanging out with my best friend/roomate, playing video games, reading novels, and enjoying the whole "real life" thing.

I’m really good at

Writing, I s'pose, though I don't do it nearly enough. I'm PRETTY good at lots of things, most of them very geeky (video games, Dungeons & Dragons, etc.), but really good? Writing. Just need to do it more often.

The first things people usually notice about me

Besides the fact that I'm a big, tall, reasonably well-proportioned guy with a goatee? Probably my laugh. I laugh a lot, and very loudly. I blame my dad; it's totally his fault.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: I mostly read mainstream fantasy stuff (y'know, Harry Potter, R.A. Salvatore, Stephen King, the Wheel of Time, and so on), but only because I don't spend a great deal of effort finding more indie titles. It's not an active choice, I'm just a bit lazy.

Movies: You name the flick, and I can find something good (or at least enjoyable) about it.

Music: Mostly rock (no particular genre; if it's got a guitar, bass, singer, and drumset, it's good enough for me), but I'm not overly picky; I can listen to anything.

Foods: Actually, I'm a bit picky. But aside from the usual junk food (pizza, burgers, etc.), I love nearly anything Italian.

The six things I could never do without

Internet access, books, other people, food, water, and a bunch of firewood with matches. Because if I didn't have internet access, books, other people, food, and water, I'd be needing the firewood and matches to send up smoke signals.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Oddly, I spend a lot of time mentally rehearsing conversations I may or may not have some day in the future. There's some great dialogue in there; I'll usually come up with something witty or profound, something that would turn heads, open minds, and unlock hearts. Only problem is, I never get a chance to use 'em. But let me tell you, if I ever get to debate George W. Bush, I am freakin' prepared.

On a typical Friday night I am

...not doing much, because I likely worked early that morning and have to work early again the next morning, and all I want to do is relax, dammit.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

...I love dwarves. The traditional fantasy kind, y'know? It's weird; I'm a tall dude, but I greatly respect and admire the idea of a whole race of people who are determined, sturdy, loyal, and hard-working to a fault. They represent kind of a masculine ideal to me, or at least their positive attributes do. The pigheadedness, greed, and mild racism I can do without.

You saw the part about me being a geek, right?

You should message me if

...you're looking to talk to a nice, friendly, enthusiastic guy, albeit a nice, friendly, enthusiastic guy who's a bit slow about checking things like email and private messages. So I apologize ahead of time if I don't reply in any kind of speedy fashion.
