I tend to catch a lot of fire for not conforming to what
established power expects:

So I guess I'm an evil
enemy of the people. Or
rather, I don't agree to do things I don't believe are right just
because it's demanded or because other people do it.
So that makes a tireless public
activist, trying to stand up for what's
right (and sit down for what's not). You'll always find me
investing time in some important project, like my teacher
union or getting new light
fixtures installed for my condominium's staircase, or writing some
guide or position paper.

I'm working on my Ph.D. in Theoretical
Computer Science at the
Technion.
I've also helped form a Teacher's union at the Technion, and I've
put together a mini-course on Junior Academic Staff
organization:

during 2008 I participated in various aspects of the all-university
struggle for the improvement of Junior Academic Staff and
'external' teacher employment conditions.
I'm also sort-of-the-head of the residents' committee in my
apartment building in the Hadar neighborhood.
(I had a long trip across Europe in 2006:

My being a good listener and discussion partner. That, and my
tendency to politically-dramatize social situations in my close
environment (think: the epic saga of intra-faculty power
struggles).
From Science Fiction and Fantasy literature (Le-Guin, Lord Dunsany,
Zelazny) to radical history and thought (Rocker, Chomsky, Knabb,
Bicher & Nitzan, Trotsky, Zinn and others). I also enjoy
Japanese animation and
Manga (when I can spare the time). My
taste in movies is also eclectic, and I'm probably the only person
I know who likes both Chocolat and Karaketer on one hand and Conan
the Barbarian on the other.
- Radical activism and thought (I am an
Anarchist, after all)
- Having challenging projects to pursue
- The sense of being part of a group, a class, an
organization
- The comfort of a close interpersonal relationship, familiarity
and intimacy. I can't do without it, yet I don't have it! A
conundrum!
And I'm keeping the rest open for now :-P
