One does not become a shaman by sheer intention., you have to be "called" by the spirits. The initiation consists in a mystical experience, most of the time perceived by the future shaman as a transportation to the spirit world. The rite of passage ends when the shaman comes back from the heavens with newly acquired knowledge.
Your role is that of the healer, using both conventional and spiritual methods. You have expert knowledge of plants and roots and can cure some illnesses with the appropriate herbal treatments. A trip to the spiritual world might be required, to confront and banish the spirit responsible for the illness, to activate the healing effect of a plan mixture, or to learn from the plants and trees themselves.
You have the power to both cure and kill, and are both revered and feared; you enjoy powers and prestige in your community. YOur position can sometimes be a dangerous one. Entering the spirit world carries its own risks, both from the spirits themselves and from the means used to alter one's state of consciousness.
