Sarah and Damien
"I NEVER thought anything would come of it..."
It all started with... well, a Google search. Yep, its true. I had moved to Florida and been here about a year and was having a hard time settling in and finding my niche of friends. Of course, this meant that I was calling home A LOT!
Much to my dismay, my very dear friend Jen decided to help me out and sent me a login and password for OkCupid.com. It was a free internet dating site... I NEVER thought anything would come of it, let alone that I was an INTERNET DATER. I was so creeped out, but thought, "Eh, why not?"
Little did I know, a sweet Italian boy was sitting in an airport doing a Google search while waiting on his next flight. Damien sent me a message 24 hours after I first logged in to the site. After several emails and chats, we decided to meet.
I was in a play at the Atlantic Beach Theatre, so he came to Opening Night! Ah, I was so nervous! After the show and some dinner, we met throughout the next few weeks for lunch, dinner, the occasional Bible study, and started attending church together. Finally, we made things official on June 27th, 2008 - I knew this was a special day, but not as special as to what would come a year later!
Why? The day of the proposal was our one year anniversary! Damien had been rushing around with planning some surprises for me the entire week leading up to the 27th. The only thing I knew was that we were going to a play that night.
Damien had made plans for us to go kayaking with a guide that morning. I have been wanting to plan a kayaking adventure for awhile now, so this was quite the treat! Three hours later, we had to change and get ready to head out to the park... Damien wanted to "show me the park" and throw the disc (frisbee) around.
Once we made it to the park, we started to throw and Damien's throws were off and I could kinda tell that something was up, but I was still not aware of what was about to happen. We walked over to the water to look at a beautiful statue in the middle of the park. Damien started to get lovey dovey and weird (and I just wanted ice cream... it was hot!)
Then Damien says, "What would you do if I propsed right now?" If this doesn't sound like the most romantic proposal ever, let me explain. Throughout our relationship, Damien and I have joked around about getting married and starting a life together. Every once in awhile he'd ask, "What would you do if I proposed right now?" I'd say, "Well, you would need a ring..." It was our joke!
So, back into the moment, Damien says "What would you do if I proposed right now?" I didn't know what to say. I had forgotten my line.
There was a slight pause, then he pulled out THE RING!!!
I was so much in shock that I didn't even know what to say at first! Damien says it was the longest 4 seconds of his life... until I said, YES OF COURSE! And here we are, planning our wedding for June 12, 2010.
