A lot of the time, 'lovable oafs' know only as much as, or less than, the people working underneath them, and the only reason they rise to success is because they're so darn nice that people can't help but promote them on the grounds of their enthusiastic attitude. It's also possible that they run their own business, quite possibly with a number of people underneath them who do a lot of the grunt work to make sure things don't fall apart.

HOW TO DEAL WITH THIS BOSS ARCHETYPE: If I were you, I'd keep this boss around. Sure, they may not be the most helpful, but they're often the most entertaining - and the least likely to bump into things. So long as you're generally nice and polite to this boss, you can get away with most things without hassle. Want to take an extra half hour off for lunch? It depends on what sort of work you do, but this boss type is the most likely to believe your excuses, even if your excuse is that you were kidnapped by a band of balaklava-donning men, taken to a remote location and questioned in the whereabouts of a lost pirate's treasure under threat of tickle torture.
