• I've noticed that the American obsession with the four-on-the-floor is waning into a lazy reverie of "Go ahead and shift for me." So what I want to know is: "How many people out there can still drive a car with a standard/manual/stick transmission?" Please note that I'm not a mechanic, so before you start asking me for car advice, keep that in mind. For purposes of this test, I've obviously left out some of the more complicated transmissions (Namely tractors and big rigs), partly because I've had no experience with them. In any case, I'm going to check out how much you know. From the stats so far, it appears that the age group which knows the most about manual transmissions (at least as I describe them in my test) is Baby-Boomers (the youngest of whom are pushing 60).
