Greetings, O student of forbidden knowledge. You have chosen to test your mental might against that of the greatest horror writer ever to set pen to page: H.P Lovecraft, creator of the Cthulhu Mythos and, of course, the legendary Necronomicon. Stephen King, Brian Lumley, John Carpenter, Guillermo Del Toro, Clive Barker, H. R. Giger and Neil Gaiman all bow to the master of the macabre (meaning they cite him as an influence and master of the genre).
Lovecraft had a staggering vocabulary and, given that his writing was done in the early twentieth century, a certain archaic quality than can baffle the unlearned. Can you match wits with the Great Old One?
There are forty words to challenge you, so good luck!
(Hint: keep in mind that language has changed since the time of his writing - both in spelling and form. Also, if a word has more than one accepted definition, only one of those definitions will be an option.)
