• The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. A musical movement that sprang up in the UK in the summer of 1979, when the rock musicians who had been driven undergound in the late 1970's by the rise of punk and disco music took on the ideals and attitude of the punks and the musicianship of the early 70's rockers and exploded out of the working class clubs and pubs of Maggie Thatchers Britain and into the charts and concert halls of the world. Amoungst it's most famous products were Iron Maiden and Def Leppard, but over the 6 years of the NWOBHM period hundreds of bands came and went, small labels sprang up from nowhere and their releases went on to influence much of the rock and metal music we know today. The NWOBHM was also a broad church, besides the 'mainstream' acts such as the aforementioned Maiden and the likes of Saxon the movement also incorporated the prog rock revivalists such as Marillion and proto glam acts such as Wrathchild and Tygertailz. This test, which is quite tough, will see how much you know of this groundbreaking time in the history of rock...... (If you spot any errors please let me know)
