Steven Spielberg + Jonathan Ke "Data" Quan = Hordes of Gen X'ers into Asian guys.

I'd date any race, but I'm almost guaranteed to find myself attracted to someone who's Asian. There are more probability of attractive traits on someone who is. But this doesn't isolate them as a person to date. Character and personality score more on my card. :)

^ you realize it's a big place and they don't all look the same?

or are you one of those people who says "i like asian girls" when they mean "i like particularly pretty japanese girls"?

Jan 15, 2013 5:18pm

People say the same thing about mixed race individuals being more proportionately attractive, but I think that selective memory plays a large role in how we look at people considered "exotic" merely because they're different looking than ourselves.

Hey, if he's into women from Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, and Turkey, who are we to disagree?

By the way....

PROTIP: Asia goes MUCH further north, west, and south than China. Just sayin'.

PROTIP: Asia isn't a continent.  Neither is Europe.

Jan 22, 2013 9:22pm

Continents are social constructs.

It's convenient to use the term "East Asian" instead of just "Asian" to refer to the race this thread is about, but then, race is a social construct as well.

English is not a literal language, nor are names always literally meant. (Seriously, what are you people, in 4th grade? Either that or analytic philosophers...)

African for instance, is generally a politically correct term for black people. But many Africans are not actually black.

Same with Asians. In American English, "Asian" means people from Japan, Korea, or China. Even though Asia has a much more diverse population than those, people from those places or ancestry from those places are called by the country or region names - Indian, Arab, Iranian, Turkish.

But "Asian" has replaced past terms like "Mongoloid" or "Oriental" which were deemed offensive, like like African replaced "Black" and "Negro"

By contrast, in the UK, "Asian" means Indian or Pakistani ancestry, while "East Asian" means of Chinese, Korean, or Japanese descent

What natural language is literal?

Jan 23, 2013 3:21am

"black" is back.

and words are given definition by consensus. if the common definition is sloppy or incorrect, change the fucking consensus so as to facilitate communication.

even if you have to deal with pissants asking if you're in fourth grade by so doing.

"asian" is often either inaccurate or imprecise. "oriental" wasn't any better, and was frequently used to cover the entire geographical region as far west as turkey.

"mongoloid" was more specific when discussing race alone, but is of course incredibly offensive.

but why not be specific, if you're going to have a racial "type"?

western white dudes have a long, rich, and persistent history of racializing and objectifying just about everyone who isn't white. i think it's an area where we can stand to tread carefully.

I don't like the "yellow" term, but to anwer the OP's question, some Asian girls are 'extremely' sexy and feminine, and did I mention beautiful?

Jan 29, 2013 8:57pm

cos Asians are the best. duh.

Myself, I'm more concerned with green fever.

Along with mayo he has the honor of being on my scriptblock list, I thought I saw his name pop up on the main forum page though

Feb 5, 2013 3:24am

Feb 5, 2013 4:05pm

I forgot to mention that I'm not really into asians. ^_^

I bet I know who you are into....

But we won't go there, I hate it when a certain group of people start whining that other people focus on them too much, when they do the same thing.
