I recently downloaded the okcupid application on my iPhone.....initially i could sign out easily by visiting the settings and selecting the "Sign Out" order.

However, I had to delete once the app and download it again a couple of days later. This time, there is "sign out" choice in Settings but only the auto offline one.

Does this sounds normal?? Is there a sign out choice somewhere else??

Please advice :-)

Hi Amidala1971 -

If you double-tap on the main round button on the bottom of your iPhone, a list of running apps will pop up. Find the OKCupid app, and press it for 2-3 seconds. The list of running apps will start shaking, and an "x" will appear in the upper left corner of all the running apps. Just tap this "x" for OKCupid and it will log you out!

Thanks for your prompt reply!

I followed your instructions but I do not see any "x" will appear in the upper left corner of OkCupid app but a "-".

I pressed it but I failed to log out

I'm guessing a friend is checking for you from another computer, or from your own computer? Sometimes, you will be logged out, but the computer your friend is checking from still has you logged in because it hasn't updated its "cache". I could get technical, but I am 99% sure that if you turn the app off you look logged out to anyone who hasn't visited you recently (i.e. a half-hour).

Not sure if you solved the problem yet, but i couldn't sign out of my ipod and figured out a loop hole

if you go to settings and do "switch usernames" it'll log you out so someone else can log in, granted you do have to put in a username, I just put in a fake name IE poop xD and submitted it. It signed me out.

You have to hit the home button twice, and all the apps you have open will appear at the bottom of the screen.  Touch any app by holding your finger down until the open apps "shake" and have an x on the top left icon of the apps you have open.  Press the x and whatever apps you have open will close.  Whenever your phone gets sluggish, you can do this.  Usually you will be surprised at how many apps you have open.

Hope this helps!

You'd think that shutting down the app would do it. But I have logged out of every instance of my account (on my computers) and shut down the app on my iPhone via double-tapping the home button and closing the app. But not only did I still appear to be online to others, but I still got a notification pop-up on my iPhone from OkCupid saying that I got a message. I haven't yet found a way to log out. Tried everything.

On Android, you may have to actually "task kill" the OkCupid app, because Android tends to just leave everything running unless there is an explicit "close" feature of the app. (Many don't have such a feature)

One change that I noticed on the most recent version of the OkCupid Android app, is that it does seem to explicitly "close" now. (prompts with a confirmation dialog) In the past, to get it to logoff/close, I had to task-kill it after exiting it.

So perhaps there is a similiar situation with iOS.

I don't know whether this changed for the iphone 4s, but the process described above doesn't just close the app, it deletes it all together.

I'd be fine to close out of okc, but really, is there no logout button?  That's really obnoxious.

I also can not logout of the iPhone app.  The result of this is I am no getting multiple messages from users that see that I viewed their profile but have not yet responded to their message - thinking I am ignoring them or being rude because they believe me to be 'online'. in reality, I'm cooking breakfast. Also, while I participate in online dating, I am not sitting in front of the screen 24x7 and do not want to convey that impression to potential dates.

Why would there not be a log off option - it used to be there in prior versions? I am considering cancelling my account again for just this reason.

FreeBird967: You can always manually task-kill the app as has been described multiple times in this discussion.

I don't think sfguyyy is getting it. Task-killing does not log you out of the app. If you task-kill the app, sure it'll stop running, but you'll still be logged in next time you run the app. What if you wanted to switch usernames or something? There does not appear to be any option to do so.

TheGoldMan89: I get it perfectly well. OkCupid will not keep you logged-in if the app is not running. It might take 30 minutes for the watchdog to kill the session, but it WILL kill the session, in every case I have ever seen. That is precisely what I used to do on the Android app before it actually had a "quit" function.

As for switching usernames, I don't see any feature for doing that on the Android app, but there is a "clear data" option in the system app options for the OkCupid app, I assume that you would just clear that and then enter everything anew on the rare occasion you might want to change users. (Don't know how that is handled in the iOS app)

(Given that having multiple active accounts here is a violation of site rules, and given that MOST of the people who need to change the user account a lot are scammers of some kind, I can understand why it may not have been a priority to build-in a trivial way to switch accounts into the app.)

It doesn't work on the iPhone app. I killed the app and about five minutes later I got a notification that I had a message.

Ada48: Please re-read what I wrote previously. The site will likely keep your login active for a little while (up to 30 minutes, in some extreme case might be as long as 60 minutes) in case your devices lack of communication was just a temporary thing, something which is very common with mobile devices especially, as the signal strength varies all the time. That is why it will not immediately log anyone out if they just terminate an app, close a browser, shut down their computer or device without explicitly using any "Sign out" options available.

If you're still showing as logged-in ie 3 hours later, then we need to look elsewhere for the reason.

In my recent experience, most of the time people think they are still logged-in is because the device they are checking the status on isn't working right and it is "holding onto" the old page data.

FWIW: you are not currently showing as logged-in here.

So, Ive read this whole thread and my conclusion is there is no way to actually log out. Meaning, if I open the app, I am automatically logged in.

Say I lose my phone, someone else picks it up, they can automatically log in to my OKC account?

That is correct, and not exactly a unique property of OkCupid's app.

Which is why you need to have a lock password on your device if you have any sensitive stuff in it.

I normally refuse to use any sort of web browser password auto-entry tools, for security reasons.

But on my smartphone's browser bookmark for OkCupid, I use the password auto-fill feature because it's such a damn hassle to type in username/password compared to a desktop browser.

This is ridiculous. Logging out is standard functionality- surely the benefits to offering this outweigh pissing off all your users?

Quitting and waiting some undefined period of time for the session to end is not at all the same as logging out.

Fix it.

Put a Sign Out button in the app!

your developers are f****wits for not putting one in.

seriously, msn has one, Facebook has one, even Instagram has one!
