My self-summary
Hey, I'm Darren, I'm an I'm a nerdy, outdoorsy, outgoing introvert. I enjoy hiking, backpacking, and all sorts of adventures in and out of the city but kinda need a push to get outside and do things more often, otherwise I end up waching Netflix or playing games.

So if you have idea for something to do, whether its going to museum, or salsa dancing, or cooking, or some concerts for a band you've never heard of, or just chilling in your favourite pub I'm game, just send a message.

Some other facts:
• I try and laugh at everything and not take things too seriously but I can be sarcastic to a fault.
• I'm a cat person, we just understand each other, they're chill, I'm chill, its great.
• I'm always interested in hearing people's opinions on things, even if they don't mesh up with my own.
• I'm easily impressed by anyone that's kind, a little bit weird, and really passionate about something, bonus points if its something I'm also interested in.
What I’m doing with my life
Trying to figure out life after grad school. Finished up my MSc in Ecology in the Netherlands recently and travelling has been my biggest passion for the better part of the last two years.

Now I'm currently looking for a new career related job but getting to know people in the know and staying in one place has its challenges.
I’m really good at
• Listening & learning things, connecting the dots and figuring out what makes things tick.
• Scrabble, crosswords, and other useless trivia
• Relaxing and chilling out, stress is good, but I feel like a lot of people have forgotten how to just relax and enjoy the little things in life.
• Wondering about obscure facts and then spending hours of time following up on said fact which usually leads to some other odd fact. Its a vicious cycle.
• Prioritizing and getting things done when they need to get done, belying my normally chilled out exterior.
• Oh, and destroying my friends at board games
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Food: Doesn't matter, put it on a plate in front of me and I'll eat it. Thai, French, Arabic, Indian, you name it. I'm a pretty decent chef as well when I put some effort into it, definitely enjoy cooking.
Special mention to cheese, because cheese, you don't spend 2 years living in the Netherlands and not take advantage of this.

Music: Folksy-Indie-Rock Singer songwriter sorta stuff, primarily, but a bit of everything including classical, electronic and hip-hop, and T-Swift, because everyone needs something to sing in the shower.

Books: Anything that looks good, Yes I judge books by their covers, or at least the back cover.
Currently Reading: 'Lawrence in Arabia' by Scott Anderson and 'The Invention of Nature' by Andrea Wulf
Last Read: Margaret Atwood's MaddAddam Trilogy.

TV/Movies/Games: Anything that is either artistically or intellectually stimulating. If it can immerse you in that world visually or emotionally or if it makes you think critically about something then I'll probably enjoy it.
The six things I could never do without
-Friends and Family
-A desire to learn new things
-My passport
-Fresh Fruit
-Nature and the outdoors
-Books
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Animal stuff. no, not like that get your mind out of the gutter, I mean literal stuff about animals, specifically animal behaviour and adaptation.

Where I should go on my next vacation, Patagonia? Iran? New Zealand? Maybe I should go back to Japan? Any other suggestions? Are there actual advantages to travelling with other people?

And food, always food.
On a typical Friday night I am
Chilling out with some friends either playing board games or at one of our local pubs for a couple beers.
You should message me if
You need a mediocre salsa/swing dance partner. Would love someone to practice with! Or better yet, if you'd be willing to go to some sort of newbie/intermediate class!

To talk about what your favourite animal is and why! I do study animals for a living, and I'm quite happy to talk your ear off about various topics related to that.

You want to teach me something I don't know much about, broadening your horizions is infinitely valuable in my mind.

Also, planning on roadtripping this summer or spring in my crappy Corolla because parks are free this year! Message if interested / able to make amazing playlists / able to navigate
