My self-summary
Curiosity is a virtue. I take pride in my shameless lack of fashion sense. I like running before sunrise and swimming after sunset. I have a favorite buoy. I don't have a TV. Historical plaques, without exception, are always worth reading. I Zipcar (as a verb). I like hanging around with late bloomers. I'm never bored. Museums are best explored at a painfully slow pace. The best books are in the public domain. Wine lists confuse me. I fear California made me too soft. I fear the beer out East is too weak. I know too much about physics to care about politics. I wish I had a rent-a-dog. ENFJ though I'm not sure if I was supposed to answer the questions according to my ideals or my behavior. I am not nearly as funny as I think I am.

I just moved to Santa Cruz from DC because I wanted some more nature. I should reCalifornia-ize this profile. My initial impression is that Santa Cruz is the Isle of Misfit Toys for people.

I only figured out how to make a dime off the top one on the list.

planning/overplanning

trying new things

taking things as they come/avoiding disappointment

cleaning up after myself

observing quietly/commenting loudly
The first things people usually notice about me
My Fabio-esque hair.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Mountain climbing literature, Confederacy of Dunces, Matt Groening's Big Book of Hell, text books, lots of non-fiction. I think all my favorite authors are dead. I do not read as much as I would like.

Music is classic rock, opera, blues and bluegrass. I absolutely love the 9:30 Club (SC analog of Catalyst is okay). I play a bit of trumpet.

Podcasts and SiriusXM are my TV replacement. Favorites are This American Life, Stern Show, Planet Money, Dan Savage, How Stuff Works, Marc Maron. I believe that Radiolab has increased the quality of my life substantially.

I have a shameless lack sophistication when it comes to food. I have trouble hanging with picky eaters. I just discovered the horatiki salad, and I make one everyday.
The six things I could never do without
Big open spaces, a sense of humor, the chilly air at sunrise, a music collection, the beach, spreadsheets. Yes, I find spreadsheets invaluable.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Other people's thought processes. Efficiency. Did texting replace calling because winky faces are a higher form of expression? New jokes. Nothingness. Sometimes I wonder if it is time to sell out and join the flock.

Whether or not I should do a trip to Reykjavik for New Year's.
On a typical Friday night I am
I have few routines being new in town, and I'm just opportunistic. Sometimes a dive bar, sometimes a run along the river, sometimes a book at home. I'd be stoked to do some road trips though. Until then I'll be just eating away the stress of the week with my two besties: Ben and Jerry.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I work at home, and I fear turning into Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons.

And I judge people who take selfies in their filthy apartments. Yes, you look nice, but I can still see the background.
You should message me if
You want to explore local breweries and wineries.

You want to teach me how to salsa dance, skate backwards, or show me good local trail running trails.

You don't feel the need to be boxed into the gender roles that only gentlemen can compose messages and proper ladies use winky faces.
