My self-summary
Hi there! My name is Matt. I'm a friendly, social-able, and sometimes slightly oblivious person. I'm a creative, day dreaming individual, and I like to ponder out loud about whatever is on my mind, no matter how tangentially related to the current topic it is. I have a good sense of humor, and love to laugh and smile. I'm also somewhat opinionated, and have something to say about almost everything. It might sometimes come off as abrasive, but I'm always the first person to admit my own wrongs and apologize for them. The people close to me, particularly my friends, are the most important people in the world to me. I hate seeing anyone i hold dear sad or unhappy, and I'll do also anything to help them if I can. My friends are really special to me, and I like to try and be 110% there for them if they need me.

I'm a real geek when it comes to my hobbies and interests. I like Dungeons and Dragons (along with many other roleplaying games), Video Games, Comic Books, Board Games (I've got a really nice collection), cartoons, I love a little bit of everything. I even run a popular podcast based around a video game I'm currently into called League of Legends. They're the things I'm passionate about in life, and a large part of my identity is based around it. I also enjoy going to see new places, and seeing new sights. Days out around the town, visiting museums, going bowling, or a night at the movies with friends also are fun outings. It doesn't matter what you're doing, everything is always more fun with friends.
What I’m doing with my life
I've just finished student teaching and should get my official New York State Certification within the next few months. I'm currently looking for a job as an English teacher, and trying to find work where I can while I do so. Hopefully I'll find something, but honestly, I've come to see my future as fluid. If I think too far ahead, I won't be able to enjoy life right now. So until I find that job or whatever I want to do with my life, I'll take it one day at a time.
I’m really good at
Listening to people and trying to help them with their problems. I'm good at having intellectual and philosophical discussions, and I always enjoy debating, even if I don't agree with the points I'm arguing (devil's advocate is fun). I'm good at coming up with fantastic and creative ideas that may or may not go anywhere (it's imagining part I most enjoy). Oh and making my friends and family laugh, I think I'm very good at that (even if the jokes aren't always funny). Corny as it sounds, it really makes me happy knowing I'm brightening up the lives of those around me.
The first things people usually notice about me
Between my large size, blonde curly hair, and smiling cherub face, I'm not really sure what stands out the most. I have been told that I always seem very friendly from the moment people meet me, so I guess that counts too.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Ender's Game (my absolute favorite book), The Dresden Files, His Dark Materials Trilogy (Golden Compass, Subtle Knife, Amber Spyglass), Bartimeus Trilogy, Soon I Will Be Invincible, The Giver, and a great variety of graphic novels and comic books, including Sandman and Y: the Last Man (these are legitimate forms of literature, whatever nay sayers would have you think). While I can't really think of any other specific books, I love the scifi and fantasy genre, though I usually like most anything that's a quality read.

Movies: (In no particular order) Lord of the Rings, The Incredibles (as well as anything else pixar has done), Star Wars (the first ones), Indiana Jones (not the new one), Catch Me if You Can, Pirates of the Carribean (the first one), Stranger than Fiction, The Mummy, Sideways, Sin City, Twelve Angry Men, The Blues Brothers, The Iron Giant, The Dark Knight, the Matrix, Princess Mononoke (along with most Miyazaki films), The Avengers, Rent (guilty pleasure), Ghostbusters, The Thing, Kung Fu Hustle, Sandlot, Dark City, Memento, Diehard, Coraline, Beetlejuice, American Splendor, and Little Shop of Horrors, just to name a few. I consider myself a growing movie lover/fan/critic, and I tend to like anything that's of good quality, or can at the very least appreciate it. I also like really BAD movies too, as I think they can be hilarious to watch and great to make fun of, MST3K style.

Music: My musical tastes are a tad weird. I have no favorite artists, I just like certain songs, I can't say why. I hate rap, and have a slight dislike for hiphop and country. If I had to pick, my Ipod seems to indicate that love Disney music and showtunes, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

Food: Oh don't make me pick, lots of things taste good. If I had to choose some favorites though, I'd go with Watermelon, Lasanga, cheesecake, baby-back ribs, and bananas. One thing thing I absolutely won't touch though is chocolate (yeah, I know, I'm a freak for this.)
The six things I could never do without
Friendship. My Cat Patches (Oh I love her so much). My computer. A good story. A Warm Blanket. Games, all games.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Why is so frigging hard to find a job?! What frivolous pursuit can I devote myself to this evening? I wonder what the future holds for me, like what my life will be like in ten years. I also like to daydream, to imagine the impossibilities and hypotheticals of life.
On a typical Friday night I am
Usually hanging out with friends, chilling at home or going out to see a new movie. Not very exciting, I know, but the bar scene really isn't my thing (not that I don't enjoy the occasional social drink). I think a small social gathering with good friends beats out a club scene with strangers any day.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Sad movies are about the only thing that makes me cry, especially sad movies involving animals.
You should message me if
You want to talk or get to know me. Friend, dating, I'm always just happy to meet new people. If you like geeky stuff too, we could have some fun conversations.
