My self-summary
Welcome to my profile! Like the nest of the bowerbird, I have decorated it with pretty pictures and interesting tidbits in the hopes of attracting just the right person. I will not, however, be puffing my chest and dancing for you. Sorry.

I keep my life interesting. By training I'm a marine biologist, though at the moment I'm focusing on my art before I start a Ph.D. next year. Previously I was a master's student in France and a fisheries observer in Alaska.

I always have at least one project going, usually more. My aquarium in France was a favorite (see pictures in the More Photos section). Currently, I'm reorganizing my studio apartment to maximize space and functionality, and I'm trying to grow a little jungle with tropical vines. I'm also designing a new aquarium for some unspecified time in the future. (I'm not an aquarium jock, by the way. I actually care for my charges and am not just looking for some flashy trophy to show off.)

Acting ethically is important to me. I do my best to stay aware of the consequences of my actions and minimize my negative impacts on the world. I feel conflicted about things like animal products and keeping fish in aquariums. I think that life is all about balancing joys and impacts. Luckily, spending time with people I feel close to is a freebie :)

I'm a feminist and LGBT supporter. If you aren't, we won't get along.

Independent and creative, I have little concern for being "normal". That person carrying a fig tree on the bus--yeah, that's me.
What I’m doing with my life
Focusing on my art while I find the right PhD program in marine biology. I make detailed fish prints (see example in Photos above and More Photos below) and sell them at Pike Place Market.
I’m really good at
Growing things, working with my hands, moving around water, finding cool stuff to do on a boat, fitting everything into my duffel bag, eating wild berries, making custom gifts from things I found on the beach/in the forest/underwater, applying math and science to mundane tasks, and organizing.

Also, if you own a fireplace, I can build you the perfect fire. It's kinda dreamy :)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Food: Chocolate, cheese, wine, hard cider, maple syrup, berries, mushrooms, french bread, nutella, cocktails, figs, good grapes, crème brûlée...living in France spoiled me

Books: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, The Tao of Physics, Cod, Four Fish, The Unnatural History of the Sea, Captain Corelli's Mandolin, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and any kind of dichotomous key

Music (Artists): The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Ingrid Michaelson, Simon & Garfunkel, Regina Spektor, Queen, Lady Gaga, U2, Lemon Jelly, Led Zeppelin, BTO, Springsteen, Charles Aznavour...

TV: The Daily Show, Game of Thrones (I don't own a real TV, just a laptop with the internet)
The six things I could never do without
Living things
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Usually one of the things I'm good at (see above), that's why I'm good at them :)

Also, what it means to be happy, what "quality" really is, how to preserve wilderness in a world full of humans.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I've already put Lady Gaga on my favorites list, I feel this is more than enough.
