My self-summary
Welcome to my profile! Like the nest of the bowerbird, I have decorated it with pretty pictures and interesting tidbits in the hopes of attracting just the right person. I will not, however, be puffing my chest and dancing for you. Sorry.

I try to lead an interesting life. By day I'm a marine biologist specialized in ecology and by night I am also a marine biologist specialized in ecology, because I love what I do. Other passions include orchids, sea art, responsible aquarium husbandry, kayaking, chocolate, wild berries, hiking, and French.

I always have at least one project going, usually more. My 15 gallon nano reef aquarium was the coolest, but I had to sell it when I moved to Seattle. You can see pictures in the "More Photos" album. Right now I just have some neat plants.

I like pondering the future of the environment, technology, and society. If you've ever asked yourself whether "natural" is still possible, if it ever existed, and how to engage the public in science, we will have plenty to talk about.

I'm a feminist and LGBT supporter. If you aren't, we won't get along.

Independent and creative, I have little concern for being normal. That person carrying a fig tree on the bus--yeah, that's me.
What I’m doing with my life
Last year I finished my master's at a university in France (a dream I'd had for a long time), and now, while I'm searching for the right job or PhD program to put my new degree to good use, I'm moonlighting as an artist. I make fish prints. My finished pieces made on land are up on my website, www.seattlefishprints.com, and I will be posting some prints made at sea prints soon.
I’m really good at
Growing things, working with my hands, moving around water, finding cool stuff to do on a boat, fitting everything into my duffel bag, eating wild berries, making custom gifts from things I found on the beach/in the forest/underwater, applying math and science to mundane tasks, and organizing.

Also, if you own a fireplace, I can build you the perfect fire. It's kinda dreamy :)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Food: Chocolate, cheese, wine, hard cider, maple syrup, berries, mushrooms, french bread, nutella, cocktails, figs, good grapes, crème brûlée...living in France spoiled me

Books: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, The Tao of Physics, Cod, Salt, Four Fish, The Unnatural History of the Sea, Captain Corelli's Mandolin, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and any kind of dichotomous key

Music (Artists): The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Ingrid Michaelson, Simon & Garfunkel, Regina Spektor, Queen, Lady Gaga, U2, Lemon Jelly, Led Zeppelin, BTO, Springsteen, Charles Aznavour...
The six things I could never do without
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Usually one of the things I'm good at (see above), that's why I'm good at them :)

I also think about abstract stuff, like what it means to be happy, what "quality" really is, and how to preserve wilderness in a world full of humans.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I've already put Lady Gaga on my favorites list, I feel this is more than enough.
You should message me if
You are smart, interesting, independent, and have a passion for language, art, wilderness, or something ending in –ology.

Also, if you have a favorite tree and want to show it to me. (Mine is a London Plane on 12th Ave NE just above 41st Street)
