My self-summary
Education and learning have a strong grip on me. Whether formal or informal, continued effort to expand the mind prevents emotional stagnation and spiritual decay.

I strive to glean a wide diversity of perspectives and pearls of wisdom from as many sources as possible, and then try to use these as a meaningful application to my life.

On the nerdy side of my spectrum, I like to see what history and ancient thought can be carried into the present day. When it comes to living a righteous life, Aristotle explains that "virtue means doing the right thing, in relation to the right person, at the right time, to the right extent, in the right manner, and for the right purpose." Although he's referencing charity, I think that this view on virtue can be superimposed on any aspect of interactions between people.

John Lennon wrote about the base motivating forces in life as being fear and love, and "when we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance... Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life." Life's journey has many highs and lows, spread across an uncertain terrain. A traveling companion that has a thirst for life would most certainly make the trip more enjoyable.

If you continue reading through the answers in my profile, I think you can get a general taste for who I am as a person. Or strike up a conversation with me! I love meeting new people and listening to different points of views and opinions.
What I’m doing with my life
By day I spend my time running around an oncology clinic and research institute, and by night (and on the weekends) I like to play music, dance, explore something new, have an adventure, and quite possibly raise hell. I also teach music to kids. My aspirations in life are to make as many meaningful connections to others as possible.
I’m really good at
Making small talk, having substantive conversations, and generally reassuring people that they matter and that they matter to me. In spite of my sarcasm and (at times) cynical outlook on the current state of affairs, I genuinely like and care about people.
The first things people usually notice about me
It depends on who's noticing. One that I'm always flattered by is when I'm told that I have "ojos como la miel," or that I have pretty eyes.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I like my Economist, New Yorker, Nat Geo, and Smithsonian magazines. With regards to books, I like anything that forces me to contemplate different life situations and reality.

For TV and movie viewing choices, I enjoy satire, farce, and basically anything that can make me laugh. Most genres are fine, but if I'm going to watch action/adventure or horror then I want someone next to me so I don't jump out of my skin.
Six things I could never do without
Oh you know, the basics (carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur). I guess if I want to be super nerdy, I would also have to throw in sodium, potassium, magnesium, etc...

For top essentials that aren't at the cellular level, I would have to say: good people, good conversation, good food, good music, some sort of communication device, and caffeine.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How loaded some of the questions are with this application, and how I want to flush out more information from the survey. Life is too nuanced for simple yes and no. There's a lot of "it depends" kind of situations. Well, I digress...
On a typical Friday night I am
Decompressing from the work week, be it with company or flying solo.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Wearing shoes inside the house just feels wrong... I'm also the person that prefers to drive barefoot.
You should message me if
If you want to, just do it. I'll make it worth your while... unless you're an asshole (and then you'll wind up with snarky remarks and a ton of side eye). Also, I'm not messing around with the down low. I'm attracted to the up high and someone who is comfortable in their own skin. Live in your truth.
