I strive to glean a wide diversity of perspectives and pearls of wisdom from as many sources as possible, and then try to use these as a meaningful application to my life.
On the nerdy side of my spectrum, I like to see what history and ancient thought can be carried into the present day. When it comes to living a righteous life, Aristotle explains that "virtue means doing the right thing, in relation to the right person, at the right time, to the right extent, in the right manner, and for the right purpose." Although he's referencing charity, I think that this view on virtue can be superimposed on any aspect of interactions between people.
John Lennon wrote about the base motivating forces in life as being fear and love, and "when we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance... Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life." Life's journey has many highs and lows, spread across an uncertain terrain. A traveling companion that has a thirst for life would most certainly make the trip more enjoyable.
If you continue reading through the answers in my profile, I think you can get a general taste for who I am as a person. Or strike up a conversation with me! I love meeting new people and listening to different points of views and opinions.
For TV and movie viewing choices, I enjoy satire, farce, and basically anything that can make me laugh. Most genres are fine, but if I'm going to watch action/adventure or horror then I want someone next to me so I don't jump out of my skin.
For top essentials that aren't at the cellular level, I would have to say: good people, good conversation, good food, good music, some sort of communication device, and caffeine.
