Left to my own devices I am something of a night-owl but early starts for my commute to work mean I have to retire at a reasonably sensible hour. I love to debate and can typically be counted on to have an opinion or form one on the fly.
I am a scientist by education but chose to pursue my career in business. I enjoy my work as a Retail Commercial Analyst as it provides a continuous stream of varied puzzles to solve.
To elaborate a little on my interests:
I love reading mainly fantasy/sci-fi but I pick up other genres as the mood takes me.
I enjoy travelling and the outdoors be it a trip to foreign climes or camping when the opportunity presents itself.
I would like to see either the east or some area of South America next I think.
I get most of my exercise by cycling to work supplemented by trips to the gym. I like playing other sports if an opportunity arises and also try to ski at least once a year (I love Skiing). I am not a fan of watching / following sports though (definitely my quiz weak spot).
I love food and enjoy cooking and eating out. With food as with most things I am always keen to try something new at least once.
For the Myers-Briggs fans I am an INTP.
What I am looking for in a partner (briefly):
Intelligence, sense of humour, reliability, some shared interests and love.
Fun if you like that sort of thing.
Mistborn trilogy (or anything else by Brandon Sanderson)
Wheel of Time
Sword of Truth
Anything by Robin Hobb/Megan Lindholm
Numerous classics: The Day of the Triffids, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Call of the Wild, Frankenstein, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Orwell, The Great Gatsby, The Sea The Sea and Edgar Allan Poe spring immediately to mind.
I tend to like films and series that make me think or defy expectations. Anything too predictable is less desirable but I can enjoy such things too, they are just not likely to make my favourites list. Watch out for the poorly disguised seemingly irrelevant details that strangely gets a minute of exposition time early in the plot.
"Whoa, don't push that button Mike. That could short out the cooling system and within ten minutes this whole place would go up!"
Me thinks Mike is going to be one of a handful of survivors of some calamity and need to make "the whole place go up" so he can live happily ever after.
I loathe spoilers and dislike the increasing trend to show you a condensed version of the entire plot of a film in the trailer. Creating the trailer dilemma:
"Do I watch the trailer to see if I want to go see the film?
"If I watch the trailer will it spoil a film I would have wanted to see?"
City of God
Lord of the Rings
Ghost in the shell
Frasier, Peep Show, Brass Eye, Coupling, Father Ted, The IT Crowd & Green Wing immediately occur as favourites. I also enjoy the majority of the satirical shows particularly anything from Charlie Brooker.
A game of thrones (but the books are better)
CSI but not Miami (Will happily watch most crime shows)
Numerous bits of anime
Full Metal Alchemist
Ghost in the Shell
Rurouni Kenshin OVA
The Irresponsible Captain Tylor
Great Teacher Onizuka
Mumford and Sons
Noah & the Whale
An eclectic mix of various things of the last 30 years and beyond
PC Games (RTS, RPG, Puzzle, Some FPS)
16/32 Bit Classics
Anything from Blizzard or Valve is usually excellent
DotA, League of Legends
