My self-summary
Hello! My name's Aaron. I'm a historian (I just got my Ph.d and couldn't be more excited!) of American history and of gender and sexuality! Nice to meet you!

I just spent the last five years of my life in Ohio doing my degree and writing about manhood and literature during the 1950s. Now that I'm done with that, I'm moving to DC to do historical work for a year while I try to get into academia the next year. I'll move out there in July, and I'd love to meet new people!
What I’m doing with my life
Like I mentioned, I'm an American historian. I'm just starting a new phase in my life, and I couldn't be more excited to be living on the East Coast this next year. My long term goal is to teach history at a university, and help students learn just why Nixon's the worst, how crazy the puritans are, why the thirties are awesome, and all about LGBT rights movements. As you might guess, I'm very passionate about teaching.
I’m really good at
I'm good at telling long winding jokes! I promise! And I've got a good one about whales in a bar.

I'm a good writer, I'm really good at teaching (if I don't say so myself), and I'm good at all sorts of games, whether they be board games, video games, poker, or what have you. If you play Secret Hitler or do Escape Rooms that's a bonus.

I also spent some time teaching myself a whole bunch of silly Party tricks: I can solve all kinds of Rubik's cubes, make card castles, yo yo, tell fortunes with cards, etc. Yes, it's all nerdy, but it's a fun way thing to pull out.
The first things people usually notice about me
I don't know- I'm exhuberant, and a little outspoken. I also dress up maybe a little too fancy.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Doctor Who and Sherlock are my favourite shows, although I adore Babylon Five, Dollhouse, and Star Trek. The newest season of Doctor Who just started and the first episode was so good! I've also been recently rewatching Arrested Development, and I love Seinfeld, Friends, HIMYM, and 30 Rock.

Books: The short stories of Jorge Borges are some of my favorites- I could get lost in just one of them for days. I love Cloud Atlas, Infinite Jest, House of Leaves, Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, and Catch-22. I just reread Slaughterhouse Five and was haunted by how good it was.

Music: I like a lot of classic rock, but lately I've been listening to a lot of piano music while I work. I also am currently really into Elliot Smith, Bruce Springsteen, and Patti Smith, but that's changeable.

I love all sorts of food, and I'm hoping against hope that DC has teriyaki as good as it is in Seattle, where I grew up. I'm happy with anything, so long as it isn't peaches or pineapple. Yuck.
Six things I could never do without
-Friends
-Fiction books
-A good friendly coffee shop- I'm hoping I can find one in DC
-My two cats Izzie and Freya- I just recently adopted them under sad circumstances, but I absolutely adore them, and I could imagine not having them now.
-Unfortunately, try as I might, I need my phone
-The knowledge I get to do something new each day, and work on a new project.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
History, of course. I just spent the last five years writing a book about manhood, World War II veterans, and the nineteen fifties, and at this point that's part of my DNA. I really love having conversations about the past and different events therein.

Of course, I'll spend a lot of time thinking about fiction I've read, or stories I've heard. I'm listening to S-Town right now, and that's really in my head at the moment.
On a typical Friday night I am
I usually try to be out every night getting drinks with friends or doing something fun. I hope in DC I'll know enough people to be out sharing adventures all the time!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I don't know. Ask me what you're curious about?
You should message me if
If you have opinions, and like to talk about them.
If you have a passion for something and really care about it.
If you sometimes have bizarre ideas
If you need a partner in crime.
If you are awesome (or even if you aren't)
You want to!
