My self-summary
Ok, it is time for an overhaul of this thing. Hey all! I am a world traveler, bookworm, Renaissance Faire regular, Oilfield Professional, and all around geek to boot. Still reading? Excellent!

In any case, I recently moved back to Houston after a year in Lafayette for work reasons, and it is still sinking in how much I missed this place. It is a panacea to the soul to be back with my family and old friends and to have a chance to re-explore this awesome city. I love meeting new people and making friends, but when it comes to dating I am a bit old fashioned and have been told I am slow to act, whatever the hell that means. It just doesn't make sense to dive into a relationship with someone you hardly know. I am open minded though, and if other people have different opinions it does not bother me in the least.
What I’m doing with my life
It is still sinking in that my younger brother got married earlier this year. I guess it makes me feel old. I still think back to when we were kids exploring the backyards of our neighborhood in Indonesia or China, and seeing him married and my little sister in college has put a lot in perspective.

I am still working in the oilfield, now on-shore {regular schedule! Yay!) as a manager at Archer Oil Tools, and in the middle of getting a new apartment for myself as I relocate from Louisiana. I recently paid off the last of my school debts, and have finally gotten a membership to the Houston Museum of Natural Science. It is hard for me to express how much I love that place and the impact it has made on me over the years.

I have also been trying to broaden my horizons and break out of my comfort zone a little. I tried the bar thing a little while back with mixed results. I found one place I like, but more as a place to sit back with a book and have a craft beer or two. Yes, I have become a bit of a self confessed beer snob recently, but only because I drink to enjoy the taste and variety of a lot of craft beers, not to get drunk.
I’m really good at
I have worn many hats in my life, I have been a heavy gamer at one point, I have been an outdoors man at some points during college, I dabble in being an intellectual and I have always been a traveler and storyteller. Most of all though I am always eager to find something new.

One thing I don't joke about is that I work very hard to be there for people I am close too. It doesn't matter if what they need is a good story to make them smile or just a shoulder to cry on when everything seems to be coming apart, I am there for those I care about.

On a weird side note, I am also apparently very good at finding things other people have lost. Usually they are tearing the room apart, I glance around the room and say "there it is." It is really bizarre sometimes, but at the same time has proven useful on a number of occasions.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm 6'3, and can most certainly hold my own in a conversation on almost any subject
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Specific books would take forever to list out, but some authors that really connect with me are: Robert Zelazney, Terry Pratchett, Robert Heinlein, Steven Brust, Naomi Novik, Alfred Bester(bonus points if you have heard of this one), Jim Butcher, Neil Gaiman, Robert Asprin, Spider Robinson. Lately I have been getting into the Callahan's Place books, and all I can think of how much the real world needs a place like that

I have never been a huge moviegoer, but I still enjoy kicking back on the couch with some friends to watch the classics, be they the things everyone lists like Star Wars and Good Will Hunting, to the weird but awesome stuff like Scott Pilgrim(an all time fave) or Donnie Darko (I have a weird fascination for time travel stories) to the utterly unknown weird stuff like the animation of Heavy Metal.

Music wise I like almost everything, drifting more towards Old school rock and roll and alternative lately, though there is always a little country in there somewhere as well. Off the top of my head a few favorites include Rush, The Rolling Stones, I Fight Dragons, Boston, Alan Jackson, Dragonforce, Foo Fighters, Rise Against, Imagine Dragons, ect. Certainly not a comprehensive list by any stretch. I will say that I am NOT a fan of rap, R&B or most club music.

I have a love of good Chinese food, and good Mexican food is a close second. BBQ is a definitely on that list too....So many tasty ways to make food...
Six things I could never do without
A good book, a place to read it, a good friend to chat about it with later, random expeditions, a good story and my sense of humor. Also, coffee.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Where to travel next. The eternal war I fight against boredom and the hilarity that ensures when I do so. Why no one writes good sci-fi anymore. Did I mention the anti-boredom thing?
On a typical Friday night I am
If i knew that my life would be a lot less interesting.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Apparently I am utterly incapable of picking up on verbal subtext, aka "dropped hints." I have no idea if people think I drop them ( I don't deliberately) and it has lead to some awkward situations where I find out weeks later I missed a chance at something that I never realized was offered.

And fine, I have ONE habit that I might as well warn about in advance. I am known for the occasional bad pun. You have been warned
You should message me if
"I've been searching for the daughter of the devil himself
I've been searching for an angel in white
I've been waiting for a woman who's a little of both
And I can feel her but she's nowhere in sight..."
(Credit to the Eagles)

You're looking for something different, fighting the good fight against boredom, and aren't afraid to walk through the grass instead of following the sidewalk.

As a last side note, I welcome anyone who wants to talk to me, but please, PLEASE if you are going to send a message make it more than one sentence fragment! Its hard to reply to just "hello" or "you seem cool." Put some thought into your message, because I always think hard about what I put in mine. Also, proper grammar and spelling is a plus.
