My self-summary
A bit arty, a bit science-y, not in any way New Age or spiritual.

Massive introvert.

Considerate to the point at which it's detrimental to my own happiness (though that's no reason not to be).

Dry and quirky taste in humour, wet and functional taste in showers.

Returned to the UK last summer after living in Japan for a few years and only just back from travelling Colombia. I'm interested in both dating and friendships so if you like the sound of me feel free to message.
What I’m doing with my life
Teaching English part time and working on a distance learning Masters in Linguistics.
Trying to keep hold of what Japanese I did manage to learn and working on my poor poor Spanish.
Basically a language nerd but in no way a grammar snob.
I’m really good at
The floor is lava.
The first things people usually notice about me
I have a bit of a lisp. Or my kidneys. I have well FIT kidneys.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm deploying the obligatory 'these are just a few and are always changing' disclaimer.

Infinite Jest - David Foster Wallace
Mrs Dalloway - Virginia Woolf
Notes From Underground - Fyodor Dostoevsky (comes close to being perfect)
Never Let Me Go - Kazuo Ishiguro
The Unbearable Lightness of Being - Milan Kundera
Enduring Love - Ian McEwan

On top of fiction and poetry some philosophy, history and politics and of course a ton of linguistics at the moment.

Oldboy (I'm not going anywhere near the Spike Lee version), Amelie, Pi, Kill List, Scarface, Hudsucker Proxy, American History X, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Oz, The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, Breaking Bad, Brasseye, South Park, Peep Show, Armando Iannucci Shows

Big passion for the more alternative side of hip-hop (eg Aesop Rock, Sage Francis) and electronica (yep, lots of bleeps and blips).
I like my melancholic folky/indie stuff too (think Sufjan Stevens or The National). Grew up on rock and metal though, so that's in the mix as well.

If you describe your taste in music as 'ohhhh anything with a good beat' then I am a bit annoyed.
Six things I could never do without
Music, books, curry, my gran (bless her), adding little asides to every other sentence inside a set of parentheses (see), coffee
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Whether or not wasps get headaches.

Human rights, secularism, language.
On a typical Friday night I am
Chilling with friends and generally saying very silly things. If I can't be bothered with other people, sitting in my bedroom with the lights off listening to music or sitting in my bedroom with the lights on reading a book.
You should message me if
You know how to appreciate a comfortable silence (yes, I am an introvert).
You realise that whilst happiness is a wonderful and worthy pursuit it is not the sole measure of well being and needs to be weighed up alongside other factors like honesty and intellectual/moral integrity.
You dislike Jeremy Clarkson.

I'm not into time wasters and unfortunately there seem to be lots on sites like this. Those of you who go 'I respond to every message out of politeness', that's just misleading, why do it? If I message you and you aren't interested just don't message back. Simple.
