My self-summary
I try to have balance in my life: work hard and play hard, serious and comical, listening and sharing, escaping into nature and enjoying the city. I feel like I have a fairly solid idea of who I am, who I want to be, and where I'm going (and also accept that I may not have a clue!).

I'm generally a pretty upbeat, happy dude.

I love life in the Gorge. I also visit Portland often to see family and friends and stuff my face with the best breakfasts.

I've traveled quite a bit in Asia, Latin America, and Europe, and lived in South Korea for a year and a half. I'm now working on traveling more domestically, exploring the many state and national parks in the western U.S. My ideal vacation is not one of rest and relaxation, but rather one of adventure, activity, culture, nature, beauty, and excitement.

I've been chewing on this article recently. Feel free to message me your thoughts:

I'm looking for a partner to enjoy life with. I'm looking for the real deal.
What I’m doing with my life
I teach at a small high school / treatment center for teenage boys with criminal charges, and I'm very passionate about it. Work can be intense at times, so after work I take care of myself with exercise, laughter, and reflection. Outside of work, I can be found playing ultimate frisbee, soccer, hiking, rock climbing, learning how to white water kayak, snowboarding, snowshoeing, playing guitar, kicking ass at pub quizzes, doing yoga, writing, playing games with friends, enjoying dinner and drinks with quality people, or reading at a coffee shop. I also love dancing at Soul Night at the Good Foot. I try to make good use of my time in this life. I want to feel like I've truly lived. (Thus far, I've been successful!)
I’m really good at
saying "Yes!" to adventures. Being open-minded. Patience. Listening. Hugging.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Death with Interruptions, Winnie the Pooh, The Confessions of Max Tivoli, Cold Mountain, Guns Germs and Steel, Vonnegut, Salinger, Sarah Vowell, Nick Hornby, Howard Zinn, Eric Foner.

A small glimpse into my world of music: I'm loving Jose Gonzalez's new album and am very much looking forward to Radiohead's new album. Gregory Alan Isokov is my current favorite singer/songwriter, but will always have a deep admiration for Paul Simon. Broken Social Scene is some of my favorite driving music. Nirvana was my childhood hero, Zeppelin never gets old, Norah Jones's voice soothes me, and I will dance to anything funky.

NPR: Radiolab, TED Radio Hour.

Food: I like food. Preferably organic, trying to eat balanced.
The six things I could never do without
Music, affection, adventures, learning/growth, physical activity, people who make me laugh till I cry.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Goals, my students, my weekend plans, memories, or listening to that song in my head.
On a typical Friday night I am
There is no typical friday night, but it could be playing board games, going out for dinner/drinks, dancing, playing lawn games on the waterfront lawn, potlucking, watching the sunset in the Gorge, yoga...

And hopefully my weekend is spend outside having adventures.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
There are very few things I won't openly share when asked.
You should message me if
If you're not afraid to make the first move. ;-)

I am looking for a partnership in which we can laugh our asses off together, try new things together, teach each other new things, push each other to be the best we can be, support each other through tough times and crummy days, enjoy music and arts together, enjoy nature together, get dirty together, expand our horizons together. That's all. :-)
