My self-summary

In 2014/2015 I was dating someone here in Virginia. In July 2015, he moved to Michigan for a post-doc but we maintain closeness in our relationship while being free to date others in our respective cities. We video chat frequently, talk about everything and hang out when we're in the same city. Anyone interested in getting to know me should be okay with this. :)

Pet Peeves: Judgmental, closed-minded people. Also people who make assumptions about something or someone before seeking to understand.
For example:
Assumption- I am in an open relationship to have lots of sex.
Truth- I haven't had sex with anyone new in over a year.

Honest, loyal, selective, loner, rational, sarcastic, realistic, analytical, logical, corny, intelligent and last but not least, I (usually) know when to break out each personality trait.

I am much more political than I used to be and I think that Trump's presidency might be the biggest joke on the US so far. If you disagree with that, there will probably be some unpleasant friction between us.

I'm largely a homebody but I enjoy going out with friends/significant others for food and beers. Sharing a meal and drinks with someone when good conversation is involved is one of my favorite things. Photography entertains me. Going to concerts of bands I really enjoy is fun. If I adore someone, I usually like being involved in the things they love to do.

I spend a lot of time on the computer. I'm on it all day at the office and then when I get home I'm often in front of it for a large portion of the night playing video games and listening to music, sometimes editing pictures.

I prefer texting to talking on the phone. I'm a big fan of emoticons and probably use them too much but I like to think that my good spelling and grammar (even when texting) makes up for that.

I really don't know that I can say I have a "type". Generally I like quick-witted guys. Sarcasm is a plus and I don't want a guy who wants someone to make all their decisions for them. I want them to be capable of good decisions on their own. Ability to make me laugh is necessary but possibly more important is the ability to laugh with me (and at my jokes, no matter how stupid... Or dirty and inappropriate, they are). I also like it when the guy I'm with dishes out lots of good-natured shit and laughs when I throw it right back at him.

Honestly, I'm not a huge people person. I love people... in moderation. I like my alone time and I'm very picky about whom I give that up for. A second date is pretty rare just because I'm not looking to fill a void or stop loneliness: I'm only looking to hang out with people whom I seriously connect with or people who really add something to my life.

I love good beer and red wines (especially Malbec and Tempranillo).

I hate plastic clam shell packaging. Hate.
What I’m doing with my life
Killin' it.

More specifically? No idea other than working the 9 to 5 and paying the bills.
I’m really good at
Um, video games? That's helpful, huh?

Making people laugh by using varied types of humor

Cooking (decent at?)

Listening, especially when someone really wants/needs to talk.
The first things people usually notice about me
One person answered that they noticed my butt... I got these adjectives from another interviewee:

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I enjoy Stephen King books. I haven't been reading as often as I used to, but I'm trying to get back into it right now. I recently finished reading "The Sticks" by my friend, Andy Deane. It's only taken me over 12 years to get around to it...

I'd have to say that David Lynch is probably my favorite director. I adore the Twin Peaks series and even the soundtracks for both the series and the "Twin Peaks - Fire Walk With Me" movie. "The Crow" is a great movie and "Office Space", because it partially mirrors my work life. I love "The Shining". I've never worked food service, but "Waiting" is still a painful reminder of my retail days of yore. Tucker and Dale vs. Evil is in my top five. I've never watched that movie without crying from laughter. I also love the movie Session 9. Almost everyone I've asked about it hasn't seen it and I usually try to force it upon them.

I don't watch that much TV but I grew up on MacGyver and I really enjoyed Firefly. Doctor Who is a current favorite and the first season of Dexter was pretty killer (see what I did there) and I'm working on the third season now. I liked Santa Clarita and am looking forward to the second season.

My musical taste varies greatly. I like Pantera, They Might Be Giants, Steve Vai, Todd Rundgren, Adrian Belew, Nirvana, Type O Negative, Drain STH, Sugar, Ben Folds, Carbon Leaf, Outkast, Eminem, Devin Townsend, most things Mike Patton related (especially Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, and Tomahawk), Nick Cave, The Pixies, Tenacious D, Stone Temple Pilots, The Dresden Dolls, The Refreshments, Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, and a slew of others.

I'm not sure if I have a favorite type of food, but I enjoy Italian, Japanese, Mediterranean, Indian. Not a huge fan of most Chinese or Thai but I will eat it if the mood strikes.
Six things I could never do without
... Oh, that's not the kind of answer you were looking for?

Well. Shit.

Then I'd have to say:

Good food/beers with friends
Sense of purpose, even a manufactured one like a "job"
I spend a lot of time thinking about
This is rarely the same from day to day...
On a typical Friday night I am
At home listening to music and playing video games. Don't be jealous.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Wouldn't you like to know!
You should message me if
You honestly think we have things in common and could have a decent conversation and you're willing to hang out with no expectations.
The two of us
