My self-summary
I made Astoria, NY my home for the past six years. I figured Boston would be a pretty big adjustment, but between the low markups on wine and the fact that I now have a dishwasher, I've decided I'm pretty comfortable here!

Most of my free time is dedicated to attempting to memorize wine related facts. In my alt-free time I do a lot of push-ups and pull-ups, play pick-up basketball when my ankles will allow it, and occasionally rub shoulders with the surly regulars populating the Foxwoods poker tables. I also like to make time to try new restaurants and bars, which I deem "work-related research" so I can write off the tabs at tax time (Does the IRS check OKCupid? Okay, good.). And yes, I too enjoy traveling.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a sommelier (or 'small ear' depending on your pronounciation) and the wine director of a restaurant in the city. It's definitely cool, but sounds more glamorous than it is. I really just attempt to sell new and interesting wines to people who only want to drink Cabernet.
I’m really good at
Pairing foods and wines, poker, pronouncing complex last names, naming skills beginning with the letter “p,” ping pong, bocce, buck hunter, skiing, scrabble, general knowledge trivia.

Conversely I am not very good at long division, hitting consecutive proper golf shots, or staying awake in the back seat of a car. But I'm working to get better at all three. Ok, maybe not the division.
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably my rugged facial hair, which at any time can range from Bruce Willis' perpetual stubble to Sylvester Stallone's mountain beard from Rocky IV.

Also, I've been told on more than a few occasions that I have the perfect voice for documentaries. So if you happen to know Morgan Freeman or Liev Schreiber, kindly let them know their jobs are in jeopardy. Thanks.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Blink, The Tipping Point, How to love Wine, The History of Bitters

Movies: The Bourne trilogy, The Shawshank Redemption, Rounders, Swingers, The Lost Boys, Oceans 11, The Shining, Happy Gilmore, Heavyweights, A Few Good Men, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Also, (nerd alert!) all the Marvel movies, LOTR, Star Wars Trilogy, Nolan's Batman movies.

TV Shows: GoT, The Walking Dead, American Greed, seasons 3-6 of The Simpsons, Seinfeld, Later with Jools Holland, Daredevil, Jessica Jones. When I'm feeling particularly masochistic I watch the Knicks or the Giants.

Music: Pretty much anything. But favorites past and present include Led Zeppelin, Mumford and Sons, Metallica, Eric Clapton, Dave Matthews band, The Killers, Arcade Fire, Green Day, James Taylor, and anything on the "No Diggity" or "Mos Def" Pandora stations.

Food: All of it.
The six things I could never do without
Chapstick
The shirt I got for winning a doubles badminton tournament
Electric Razor
A fluffy pillow
Wine key
Coffee
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Why they call it Ovaltine. The jar is round. The mug is round. They should call it Roundtine!
On a typical Friday night I am
On the floor of my restaurant either a) recommending a bottle of wine to someone, b) opening a bottle of wine for someone, or c) picking up a piece of silverware that a guest or busser dropped for the 20th time that night.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I prefer body wash to bar soap and there is nothing you can say that will make me change my mind.
You should message me if
You prefer Seinfeld to Friends and generally cringe if someone disagrees.

You know what a negroni is and you could really use one right about now (and if you made it this far, you've probably earned it.).
