My self-summary
I’m a PhD research scientist who uses computers to try to cure African sleeping sickness, malaria, and pandemic influenza. Though I’m secretly conflicted by the fact that the recent bird-flu scare was great for my career, I absolutely love my job. My dad tells his friends that I’m trying to save the world. It doesn’t feel that way most days, but the work is really interesting.

My Mormon faith is also very important to me. I enjoy blogging about my beliefs on a website I created a few years back. I regularly answer people’s gospel questions in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. I love helping investigators learn more about the LDS Church through the Internet.

I’m also passionate about humanitarian work. Over the years I’ve maintained ties to Brazil, where I served my mission. I helped start a non-profit organization that funded an education initiative there; recently, a number of the low-income students we sponsored have been accepted into the local University. More recent projects have included work for a free medical clinic and an autism-advocacy organization.

I come from a strong family, and I’m attracted to strong women. Some people think strength is prioritizing one’s own needs over the needs of others (i.e., being selfish), or that women are strong when they discard femininity and embrace men’s worst vices. I’m not looking for someone like that. I appreciate women who are anxiously engaged in a good cause, whether in the home, in the ward, or in the community at large. I'd like to be with someone who actively tries to be a good person; someone who wants to lead a fulfilling life, but who knows how to have fun along the way.

I'm a pretty laid-back guy, and I like getting to know new people. Please email me or wink if you think we’d be a good match.

P.S. While I have friends of many faiths, I believe religious unity is important in a romantic relationship. I'm really looking to date Mormon women. Thanks!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
My dog Daphne is my current exercise partner. She attacks people’s toes if I don’t take her on a walk. She’s a lovely walking companion, but not much of a conversationalist. Currently looking for a new female companion capable of verbal communication.

I really love music. I even published a book of piano hymn arrangements a few years ago. I recently started practicing regularly again, working on a Rachmaninoff piece that is super fun to play.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m a direct descendent of Alfonso II “The Fat” King of Portugal.
