My self-summary
If I were a fortune cookie, it'd be either "Your friend's face will tell you more than a thousand mirrors" or "A plumber moves slowly for a man with so much crack": I am eternally torn between the deep and the ridiculous (not really; in life, I'm pretty sure those two are best friends).

I like meeting people. I hunt for the good in things. If you give me a smile, I'll do my best to keep it there. I'm always up for a good conversation.

Looking for an old soul with a young heart.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm at UCSB, finishing my dissertation and making America's classrooms great again (#HackingTrumpQuotes). But I make time for friends, hippie potlucks, playing at the gym, acro, art, nature, and pretending other people's dogs are mine.

If you want to join me in any of those (except for the dissertation), everything's better with company.
I’m really good at
Buying exactly enough groceries for the week? Also, facial expressions. And I have a knack for describing things well.
For example, OKcupid is like:
(for men) ...being in a room full of gift-wrapped presents, with no names on them, most of which you can't open.
(for women) ...being a cat, covered in peanut butter, surrounded by off-leash dogs.
The first things people usually notice about me
I apparently look like either Brad Pitt (5%), Christian Bale (10%), or Jim Carry (85%) -- though that's usually said after I laugh or dance my eyebrows.

Also, my running form has compelled at least 5 perfect strangers to compare me to Forrest Gump.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Brave New World, The Midnight Kitchen, old dictionaries
Movies: Death at a Funeral, Moonrise Kingdom, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil
Shows: Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Louie
Music: Simon & Garfunkle, Sam Cooke, "that one song that goes..."
Food: anything whose ingredients I can pronounce (Quinoa - fine. Butylated Hydroxyanisole - I'll pass.)
Six things I could never do without
1) People (the best are inspirations; the worst are tests)
2) Dogs (their revelry is my philosophy)
3) Sunshine (tied with moonlight, but that's just the sun again)
4) Language (once you learn the game, it's hard not to play)
5) Oceans (for if I forget how to breathe)
6) Cellular senescence (having a Due Date reminds me to savor things)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to say it better.
On a typical Friday night I am
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
honest, playful, respectful, healthy-living, curious-minded.
won't do little white-lies, will laugh when the world's being irritating, might play devil's advocate for the people you complain about, will eat the celery next to your buffalo wings, am better at big talk than small talk.

*also: I know you probably get a million messages; I send 20 notes and get maybe 1 response: those are both frustrating. So let's fix that! Message me if you're interested - I will appreciate it, and I'm an open book.
You should message me if
You see online messages as a quick test of character, and what you really want to do is meet good people in-person.

You disagree with this (albeit brilliant) quote:
“The point of dating is just, to keep on dating, and then never stop. It's like burning fossil fuels, or seeing a therapist.” – Schmidt (New Girl: S4, Ep2)

You're half-glad when the power goes out, and all the windows light up with candles; you can enjoy a night without computers, phones, or reality-TV.
The two of us
