My self-summary
For years I've said that I am a Californian expat living in Maryland, but I tried to move back to California last autumn, and it didn't really feel right, so I came back. I'm not sure what that means about what I call myself now.

With the exception of my brief journey west, I've lived in Baltimore for a while now, and I think it's a pretty rad place.
What I’m doing with my life
Working on a curriculum vitae that reads like one of those dotted-line Family Circus comics -- At one point, I worked for an LGBT nonprofit. Once, an admissions officer. Before all that; I worked for The Machine.

Now I teach and I write. In each case, I do one so that I can support doing the other.
I’m really good at
I think I am good at avoiding or containing knee-jerk reactions to new or challenging ideas until I can give them an appropriate amount of reflection.

I'm also pretty proud of the writing I do. I write for a few local publications, and I have a few stories and poems published, and I can stand behind most of it without any embarrassment.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Here are some books I really like, both classic and contemporary: The Handmaid's Tale, Prelude to Bruise by Saeed Jones, The Empathy Exams by Leslie Jamison, About a Mountain by John D'Agata.

Music: I can't really tell any more. I grew up on skate- and polisci- punk, but nowadays my taste is pretty broad. Lately I've been on a Roots/Folk/Alt-Country kick. Before that, it was Doo Wop.

TV: I want to tell you that I don't watch television, but that would be a lie. Protip: there are more seasons of The Great British Baking Show, but they are named The Great British Bake Off.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
New Sincerity
Status anxiety
Poetry and poetics
My dog, Chickpea
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I unironically enjoy The Splendid Table.
You should message me if
I know that I'm burying the lede here, but I am Queer (I date and flirt with people of any gender), and I am in a long-term, polyamorous relationship. It would make the most sense if you were comfortable with those traits before messaging me.

I hate that I need to include this, but I should say that I'm not looking for a "unicorn," nor the normative baggage the term implies.

Oh, and please don't message me if you're sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic or generally an unwelcoming person.
