My self-summary
I believe in Sherlock. I believe there should always be music playing in the car. I believe that if you say you aren't impressed by kittens, you are blatantly lying.

Deal-breakers: smoking, hunting, cat allergies, religious devotion, valuing my body over my mind (not to look like a dualist, but it's a real paradigm in our culture).
What I’m doing with my life
MA in theatre studies, writing plays sometimes. Heading out for my PhD in the fall, not sure where. Attempting to earn money by babysitting. Giving my cat belly rubs.
I’m really good at
Making you wonder how on earth I knew that. Then employing ironic false modesty about it.
The first things people usually notice about me
I am sitting in the front and I talk the most and the loudest.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: many, but Jane Eyre, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Hamlet are all time list-toppers.. I also love Salinger, Austen, Tolkein, Rowling, the obligatory Shakespeare, Aphra Behn, Mary Wroth, Kit Marlowe, Neil Gaiman, Laurence Sterne, comic books (especially those of Warren Ellis and Alan Moore), Carl Sagan, Lemony Snicket, and oh look I promised myself I wouldn't list more than three favorite books...LUCRETIUS. And Foucault and Judith Butler. Currently reading A Song of Ice and Fire, just like everyone else in the country.

I love good movies based on good books. I love Star Wars and Mirrormask and Marie Antoinette and 80s comedies like Heathers and Repo Man. I also love musicals, British comedies, and 50s B movies. And Tarantino.

TV: Joss Whedon (especially Buffy), Doctor Who, Torchwood, 30 Rock, Daily Show & Colbert Report, and of course Python and Blackadder. Currently watching The Walking Dead and Black Books. And obviously I like Sherlock and Downton Abbey. Addendum: new obsession: Game of Thrones.

Music: Tom Waits, Tori Amos, Rasputina, Amanda Palmer, Emilie Autumn, Jesca Hoop, Kate Bush, St. Vincent, The Magnetic Fields, Jay-Z, Kate Nash, Bitter Ruin, Buke & Gase, and other artists that use big words and dissonance. And, of course, Eagles, Styx, Paul Simon, Zappa, Utopia. I also love musical theatre, especially Sondheim.

Food: anything made well. I love Indian, Thai, Mexican, Chinese, Italian. Any pasta dish with browned butter and sage. I'm a vegetarian, but not so big on the salads. Carbs are my thing.

Tl;dr: I like lots of cool things and once I start talking about them I can't stop.
The six things I could never do without
Books, pets, coffee, family, computer, fancy cheese, wine.

Yes, I know that's seven. I'm a hobbit.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The lonely 17th century sonneteer Mary Wroth, who would be stuck in her room writing and pining when her beloved (also her cousin) rode off into the sunset (frequently) with his wife (or other mistress). Like, I really want to go back in time and tell her about the Internet.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with friends in a low-key sort of way.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
If I found a genie in a lamp, these would probably be my 3 wishes:
1. Give my cat the ability to speak and understand English
2. Make my cat young and healthy forever so he can be my life companion
3. Never run out of wine and cheese money
You should message me if
you like talking to people with common interests.
