My self-summary
I've been fortunate to spend two years working abroad in Germany exploring castles, skiing the alps, and learning to breathe under the Mediterranean Sea. It is nice to be back stateside though for all those little things one misses away from home.

I am a UC Davis Graduate with a B.A. in Comparative Literature. Through work I've obtained associates in Cultural Studies and Communications Technology and am currently working on job related classes. After that I might move on to something in Network Information Systems. I LOVE to learn about a variety of subjects. In my spare time I enjoy reading fiction and non/fiction. Speak French almost fluently, enjoy both science news and art.

I am the introverted extrovert. Once you get me going, I'll talk about this, that, those, those other things, and maybe even these things right here. I love getting to know people and if I ask a question it's unlikely to simply be polite, but because I really want to know. I believe in in opening doors for women, being there for my friends, but have a dirty side that can enjoy the crass and innuendo.

I'm striving to attend more cultural activities and cutting out things that want to pull me back into a malaise. I'd like to think I striving for balance in my life. I don't make it a point to eat super healthy foods, but I try to eat a balanced diet. I'm not obsessed with the gym but I think a certain amount of fitness is important. I'll read classic literature sometimes or indulge in the occasional computer based entertainment. I'll watch The Daily Show and TED talks and favor podcasts at least as much as music while driving. (Sometimes it's a podcast with music, so double win!) I'll drink, but never to excess. The country side is there to be explored, but I curling up with a book on a rainy day is wonderful as well.

I laugh at the world most of the time, myself included, because when I stop and really consider the world situation I have to shake my head.

I am witty, geeky, and romantic
What I’m doing with my life
I got my SCUBA Open Water Diver certification and am looking forward to spending more time in the water. Outside of work i volunteer with the local dive search and rescue team. My other goals this year are to work on my Masters and training for a half marathon.
I’m really good at
Computers and new technology in general. Problem solving. I love tackling things people I know are working on. I sat in on half the lectures of a psych class just because a friend was in it and considered taking the GRE for kicks when some friends of mine were prepping for it.

Books too. When I sit down to read something I usually devour it fairly quickly.

The News I love keeping tabs on news and science stories. I think it is really important to be informed.

I'm working on improving my cooking. It's strange getting recipes from books and sites rather than the back of the box.

All this breaks down to giving me a pretty open mind when it comes to cultural understanding. Even if I don't agree with someone, I can usually understand where they are coming from.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm just going to quote a friend here since I obviously know myself too well "height, haircut and smile". I have to keep my hair short for work, suppose I am relatively tall, and would like to think I have a warm smile.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
A) I love the Hitchhikers Guide (I actually have the original radio broadcasts in MP3, and they are great!) sci-fi and fantasy in general. I have a strange fascination with fairy tales of all kinds (including Angela Carter and the Politically Correct Bed Time Stories.) As of right now I am reading a varity of books including Choke and The Taliban. My recent reads include The Clown, Stranger in a Strange Land, The Looming Tower, Lamb - The Gospel Accodring to Biff. Christs Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore and Wicked and The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove. I love Sluggy Freelance, Penny Arcade, User Friendly, GPF and Something Positive, perhaps not so much books, but better this category than elsewhere. When I finally got around to reading the Harry Potter books, I finished all 6 in about 10 days. I read Angels and Demons and The Davinci Code in about a day each. I can really get into reading when a book grabs me. Recent reads include Brave New World, Salt, Freakonomics and Memory of Light

B) The Princess Bride and Scott Pilgrim Movies are probably my favorites. I can enjoy just about anything tasteful. Sliding Doors, Dangerous Liaisons, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, X-men, Crash... a big range. Story quality is important in any movie.

C) I generally like alternative/rock stuff, but can appreciate other genres if it's a good song. Current big favorites. Linkin Park, Renee Olstead, My Chemical Romance The Protomen, Voltaire, Green Day, Anything from Overlocked Remix. Some Long term favorites are U2, Vertical Horizon, 3 Doors Down and Altan. I have been known to listen to comedy routines in audio format like Monty Python or Dr. Demento. Additionally I like listening to pod casts such as Radiolab, Things They Didn't Tell You in History Class, Star Talk and Freakonomics. Though it isn't my normal genre, I really enjoy a rap artist named Macklemore.

D) Pasta, Chinese, and just about anything with oriental spice. I'm a so-so chef who needs to improve his skills, but I can probably make you a ham and cheese sandwich to kill for or my signature Tuna Pasta. I'm a master Mac and Cheese chef although I can share a funny story about my first time making it.

E) (Cause TV ought to be here too) I tend to favor shows on the Sci-fi Channel like Stargate, the re-airing of Firefly, and the new Battlestar Galactica is great. The Daily Show, The Walking Dead, Community, Modern Family, Spartacus, Shutupsitdown and Table Top. There is a lot of good TV out there, I know but I just don't have time for it all, so I find a few that I enjoy and catch em when I can via Hulu or Netflix.
Six things I could never do without
My geek chic table,
Spicy food to eat at the geek chic table
Good friends to gather around the table with and eat the spicy food with.
Entertaining board/table games to play with the good friends as we gather around the geek chic table and eat the spicy food
My mind, to hopefully win the entertaining games being played with good friends that gather around the table while we eat the spicy food.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What a mad mad mad world it is.
On a typical Friday night I am
50/50 I am working, but if not, probably hanging out with friends in some manner or another. I'm a big fan of a game night and enjoy gathering with friends around the table for am evening of cards, dice or whatever gets pulled off the shelf that night.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have a birthmark on my chest that is reminiscent of the character Chandler from Friends.
You should message me if
Any of this makes you want to or maybe wanna hear how someone can mess up Mac and Cheese, or you just wanna talk to someone who will often say "funny story bout that".

You don't mind me half joking about being a Pastafarian. (RAmen!)
