My self-summary
Journalist, feminist, editor, quick with a joke, not one to smoke. I've sung with a punk band, thrown out a first pitch, I look like The Baxter, but behave like The Doctor.

I am quick-witted, progressive, and multifaceted
What I’m doing with my life
I'm an editor at RawStory.com and the editor-at-large at Racialicious.com, so the bulk of my work focuses on social justice issues in pop culture -- particularly within the comics/sci-fi realm -- and elsewhere.

I very occasionally DJ, after a couple of years around the local goth scene, as well as some geek-related events.
I’m really good at
Talking. If I'm comfortable with you, it means a joke, a story or a suggestion of the "Hey, let's do this!" variety is coming at any point -- especially if it involves a local music show or something screening at Digital Gym or related to non-blockbuster film. I write almost as actively as I converse, with comparable levels of diction and spelling. I'm also fluent in Spanish and snark.

Mixtapes. I've been known to give these out to friends as tokens of thanks, or just to recommend stuff.

Writing. It's defined me personally and professionally, and I'm looking to get back on that horse, on journals here and other blogs.

Other talents:

* Swing-dancing
* Trip-planning
* Cleaning up well (however, not a neat freak)
* Acting a fool to get a laugh
* Karaoke, with a live band and otherwise
The first things people usually notice about me
My lack of pretense and abundance of quips. Usually people are surprised that my mouth is that smart - even for a guy with glasses.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Like I said earlier, my taste in films runs closer to the stuff you'll see at the Ken or the Landmark, and now Digital Gym. And the occasional Marvel film.

Bookwise, I gravitate toward pop-culture history -- think of the SNL oral history book and that's the general idea.

TV: I'm a big fan of BBC/ITV-style, tight-and-bright series. Sadly, we're down to Doctor Who at the moment since most of my other favo(u)rites (Misfits, Being Human, Spaced, Coupling) are off the air. Right now I'm watching The Flash, The Librarians and Agent Carter when I want to unwind from work. I suppose I should just get this out of the way: I do not follow or particularly enjoy 90% of reality television.

Music: As you might have guessed from the previous sections, this is also a big part of my life, for a variety of reasons. And my ears are always open. Currently I'm listening to selections from a collection of nearly 2,800 mash-ups. Who knew Lyrics Born and AC/DC blended so well?
Six things I could never do without
My mind, hope, pen, paper, music, my friends
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What to do next, and what to set up for whatever comes next.
On a typical Friday night I am
It varies now -- sometimes I'll hit up karaoke, other times check out a local show. I'm lucky enough to live in a part of town where there's a bunch of options within walking distance any given weekend.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
The Rocky Horror Picture Show also has a big spot in my life, as I'm a happy and proud "graduate" from our local cast. I'm still a part of that community, however, and catch a show from time to time.
You should message me if
You're looking for a new swing-dance partner; you want to rant about progressive politics; you want to trade musical discoveries; you want to trade music/movie/geek talk; you want a companion; you want to laugh; you're looking for someone who can travel to a diverse array of social settings. Nerdy is good -- nerdy with other interests is better.
