My self-summary
Liberal. Teacher. Feminist. Trombonist. Kick-ass uncle. Not necessarily in that order.

Things I like:
- Teaching
- Good beer (Favorites at the moment: Five Barrel Pale Ale, Isolation Ale, Easy Street Wheat, Firemans 4)
- Texas Hold 'Em Poker
- Having somewhat serious conversations about politics, religion, or life goals while mixing in "That's what she said" jokes.
- Trying to stay in shape (and sometimes succeeding)
- Drum corps/marching band (teaching it, now that I can't perform anymore)
- Pronouncing 'gif' properly (It's a hard G, I don't care what the inventor says)
- Podcasts (Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me!, and Freakonomics)
- Reading (typical English teacher answer). Recently read: The Moral Landscape, The Political Dynamics of American Education, Speaker for the Dead.
- Computer/video games (typical guy answer)
- Making lists of things I like
What I’m doing with my life
Right now I'm spending most of my time working, and trying to get out and be with friends. I occasionally go out and try my hand at pool and put myself in embarrassing social situations, and that's, at the very least, entertaining. I've recently tried painting at a wine and paint shop, which was a messy, drunken good time.

I spend a lot of time playing trombone, going to Geeks Who Drink, and seeing what other fun things Austin has to offer.
I’m really good at
I'm really good at listening, making people feel comfortable, making nerdy jokes, discussing intelligent topics (politics, science, technology, literature) and trivia.

I also like to think I'm good at playing the trombone and baritone and singing. But I'm shy, so it rarely happens in public.

And of course, I think I'm a damn good teacher.
The first things people usually notice about me
I have an awesome sense of humor. Or my eyes. Take your pick.

Six things I could never do without
Good beer
Warmth (I lived in Colorado and hate cold weather. And snow. A small part of the reason I moved here)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Honestly, these days, politics. They're not fun thoughts, but they're sometimes productive.
On a typical Friday night I am
I'm sure we can all agree, there's not really a good answer to this, unless you work on Friday nights. So I will just say that on an IDEAL Friday night, I'm having drinks with friends, or hanging out watching a movie, or doing something fairly low-key. I am definitely not raging at a club, or drinking aggressively. I'm not sure I actually know what raging means, but it doesn't sound like my idea of a good time.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm an English teacher, and I consider myself only a light drinker, usually in social situations. That being said, nothing makes me want to reach for a whiskey bottle quite like the prospect of teaching or reading Shakespeare...
You should message me if
You should message me if you enjoy intellectual conversation, laughing, and enjoying good quality time with a decent guy. I'll forgo any list of "Do NOT message me if..." qualities. Just send me a message, and I promise I will reply :)
