My self-summary
I aspire to be a kind, loyal, patient and good-humored individual.

I've moved to Ditmas Park, so my user name should now be Ben11226. I mean, if you're into zip codes

My beard and hair length is always in flux.

Oh, and I'm really good at punning. I'd make an old-timey pun right now, except that I don't want to date myself.
What I’m doing with my life
I make my living as a writer, explaining my area of expertise to those indulgent enough to listen. Through my job I am able to explore the entirety of the United States, and a deep appreciation of American culture both high and low is hardwired into my DNA.

I've lived in NYC for 13 years, and while it's never going to be a totally ideal place to live I love it now as much (or more) than I ever have. I also hate it now as much (or more) than I ever have. But that is the way of things. Love has the edge.
I’m really good at
Appreciating high and low culture equally

City exploration

Interacting with kids

Being a nice guy, getting drinks
The first things people usually notice about me
If I've got a beard going, then they notice the beard.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I read a lot, usually have four books going at once and why are there these magazines everywhere?

Music has and always will be one of the most important things in my life. I am always seeking out new things to listen to, while staying in touch with old favorites. I still buy records and, on occasion, CDs, because the thought of a world without record stores is very upsetting.

I go to shows often, and am very loyal to the artists I like.

I'm a Film Forum member. Favorite movie is a tie between The Shining, Aguirre Wrath of God and How High.

I am very excited to see the new Twin Peaks.

As for food, going out to eat is just about my favorite thing to do in this city. My culinary parameters are unfortunately not quite as wide as they used to be (not by choice), but I remain the sort of person who will say yes to everything it is possible to say yes to. And, slowly but surely, I have been learning how to cook for myself -- a main dish and sides and everything. Just like Mom used to make, except worse.
The six things I could never do without
Inaccurate list making
I spend a lot of time thinking about
potential possessed versus potential realized, and how to keep closing the gap.
On a typical Friday night I am
listening to just one more song, and then leaving the apartment. This is going to be the last one, I promise. See, I've got my coat on and everything.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Most of the times I've cried as an adult have involved watching or listening to baseball highlights that invoked childhood memories.
You should message me if
the spirit moves you.
