My self-summary
I am a person who loves learning new things and expanding my knowledge. Lately, I've also been more interested in sharing this knowledge with others.

I'd say that one thing I want to do all my life is explore. Obviously traveling is one of my favorite ways of doing this, but I don't get too many opportunities for that. Hopefully I'll get more chances to travel far and wide in the years to come.
What I’m doing with my life
I received my Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in the library science program. Right now, I'm working at a library in Valley City, where I've been living for a few years. Basically, throughout my life I've always wanted to work as a librarian or archivist.

Every now and then I'll be out and about in Fargo/Moorhead. I grew up in Moorhead, so it figures that I like to return there on occasion.
I’m really good at
- Board Games -- Scategories, Pictionary, and Balderdash are my favorites.

- Random bits of knowledge -- I would call it trivia, but sometimes these bits of knowledge can be helpful and non-trivial.

- Being honest

- Being considerate

- Expressing my thoughts

- Navagating. Well, sort of. I have a great sense of direction, a mediocre sense of distance, and a fairly good memory of places. It adds up to me becoming fairly familiar with the layout of any area in which I regularly frequent.

- Making mango salsa.

- Ranting about/culturally analyzing music. To be honest, mostly the ranting part, but I figure that it involves analyzing as well.
The first things people usually notice about me
"Where'd you get that T-Shirt?" The answer, 7 times out of 10, is at a thrift store.

I do wear glasses, sometimes people comment on that.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Lord of the Rings, the Godfather, 1001 Nights (better known as Arabian Nights), and the Song of Fire and Ice series. This series is 4 (eventually 7) books that are amazingly complex page-turners. The first book is A Game of Thrones. Read it.

Movies: Lord of the Rings, Godfather (sure enough), Pulp Fiction, Caddyshack, Goodfellas, Monty Python and the Holy Grail,Inglorious Basterds, and Walk Hard:The Dewey Cox Story.

Lots of people include TV shows as well, so here goes: Futurama,Mystery Science Theater 3000 (my favorite show of all time),The Drinky Crow Show,Tim and Eric Awesome Show,Shin Chan,Boondocks,Check it Out! With Dr. Steve Brule. Yep, that's a lot of Adult Swim shows, what can I say!

Music: Here goes. Very eclectic, but mostly Rock based. Beatles, U2, Pink Floyd, Phish, Yes, various Motown musicians, Eric Clapton, Laura Nyro, Queen, Of Montreal, Summer Hymns, Belle and Sebastian, Super Furry Animals. A good chart of my musical preferences can be found at my account:

Oh, I almost forgot. I like some classical music/art music (whatever you want to call it) as well. I like many of the obviously familiar composers like Mozart and Beethoven; in addition, several composers from Eastern Europe, particularly Dvorak and Rimsky-Korsakov. I tend to like orchestral music the most, along with chamber music that features woodwind instruments.
Foods: fresh bread, steak, fish, pork chops, citrus fruits, cherries, mangoes, corn, green beans, tabouli, tons of other food items. In terms of general types of cuisine, I like Thai, Indian, Meditteranean, and Jamaican foods. I used to love Chinese food, and still like it, just not as much.
Six things I could never do without
In no order.

1. Food
2. Music
3. Social Contact
4. Imagination
5. Love (in the broadest sense)
6. Humor
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I spend time thinking about other places in the world. There are so many places I want to go and see in person. For me, there are too many for a short lifetime.

I also spend time thinking about politics. My knowledge of policy is still rather limited, but I am extremely fascinated with elections and electoral strategy. Keep this in mind: I have a strong political bias (I support the election of liberal Democrats), and I'm not apologetic about it.

On a lighter note,I also think about pop culture a lot (especially in the areas of film and music). While I'm not as "top 10" list obsessed as the characters in High Fidelity, sometimes I do think up such lists.
On a typical Friday night I am
less stressed out than during the day.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
My food status "mostly anything" should be qualified. I don't eat cheese at all, and have several other foods I don't care for - yet there are other foods that some find queasy that I have no problem with eating (i.e. stuff from the Bizarre Foods show, though maybe not the strangest stuff.) Even though I have been to Taiwan, I did not try the stinky tofu; some people claim that this was a mistake, but I know otherwise!
You should message me if
If we share something in common, I'd love to talk. Or even if we don't and you want to know why. I like chatting both in real time (i.e. instant messaging) and over emails and messages.
