What I’m doing with my life
I am pursing a PhD in Physics here at Penn State. Tenure-track research professorship is the long term goal, but if that doesn’t work out, I want to remain in scientific research. I’m also an active member of the university’s graduate student government.
I’m really good at
Having intense focus to learn and master what I'm fascinated in, whether it be within my work, hobbies, or personal growth.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: In fiction, I tend to like sci-fi and fantasy; some favorites include A Song of Ice and Fire, Lord of the Rings, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and The Windup Girl. I’ve been expanding to more classic fiction recently. Aside from fiction, I also like reading nonfiction, particularly about academic subjects – I am fascinated with linguistics, (huge fan of Steven Pinker) and I am also read about philosophy, theology, and history. And of course, my own academic research in physics.

Movies: Inception, Star Wars, Monty Python, A Beautiful Mind, The Princess Bride, Interstellar, The Martian

Shows: Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, Daily Show, Futurama, Simpsons, Battlestar Galactica, Breaking Bad, Firefly, Mythbusters, The Office, Community, Archer, Big Bang Theory

Music: I have been told that I live under a rock re: music, and my musical tastes are highly selective, but I’m slowly but surely climbing out of it. I like classical music (Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Rachmaninof) blues, jazz and electronica.

Food: I don’t discriminate that much and I always want to try new things, but I’m particularly fond of Italian, Mexican, Mediterranean, and Indian.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My mind is a cacophony. I constantly think about everything, and I can't think of a single moment where my mind is quiet. Including this one. I probably should get that fixed, or perhaps stream my consciousness into a bandwidth of coherent thoughts so that I could at least use it productively. Like right now I'm just thinking about the best way to stop this sentence from talking about how I should not be constantly thinking, and really, that's not the way to go with this kind of thing. Just do it. Why can't I think about science instead or perhaps something else that's intellectually or literary interesting that would satiate the pleasure centers of my brain?
On a typical Friday night I am
If I'm not working in the lab, I'm either hanging out downtown or playing board games with friends.
