My self-summary
If I were to describe myself as a combination of three fictional characters, it would be Abed Nadir from Community, Leonard Hofstadter from Big Bang Theory, and Samwise Gamgee from Lord of the Rings. I love substantial conversations, whether the topic be intellectual or emotional. I’d describe myself as an introvert in the sense that social interactions drain my batteries, but I'd consider myself outgoing for a physicist. My Myer-Briggs personality type is INTP.

I enjoy playing tabletop games and board games, and I host and attend these events. I like to take walks and exercise. I like to read, love to learn and teach others, and play video games. For my creative side I like to read about and create fictional worlds.
What I’m doing with my life
I am pursing a PhD in Experimental Physics here at Penn State. I've recently decided that after I graduate, I want to be a Data Scientist, and I'm working on educating myself on the skills I need until I get to this goal, as well as weaving these skills into my research on the way. I'm passionate about scientific outreach, and directed a science summer camp last summer. I’m also an active member of the university’s graduate student government.
I’m really good at
Having intense focus to learn and master what I'm fascinated in, whether it be within my work, hobbies, or personal growth.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: In fiction, I tend to like sci-fi and fantasy; some favorites include A Song of Ice and Fire, Lord of the Rings, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, His Dark Materials, and The Windup Girl. I’ve been expanding to more classic fiction recently. Aside from fiction, I also like reading nonfiction, particularly about academic subjects – I am fascinated with linguistics, (huge fan of Steven Pinker) and I also read about the natural sciences, programming, philosophy, psychology, theology, and history. And of course, my own academic research in physics and topics in data science.

Movies: Inception, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Monty Python, A Beautiful Mind, The Princess Bride, Interstellar, The Martian, Pixar movies like Wall-E and Inside Out, Deadpool

Shows: Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, Silicon Valley, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Rick & Morty, Bob's Burgers, Futurama, Avatar, Battlestar Galactica, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Firefly, Mythbusters, The Office, Community, Archer, Big Bang Theory

Music: I have been told that I live under a rock re: music, and my musical tastes are highly selective, but I’m slowly but surely climbing out of it. I like classical music (Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Rachmaninof) blues, jazz and electronica. In terms of artists, I like Lindsey Stirling, Thievery Corporation, and Weird Al.

Food: I don’t discriminate that much and I always want to try new things, but I’m particularly fond of Italian, Mexican, Mediterranean, and Indian.

Video Games: My four favorite genres are Strategy, RPGs, Platformers, and Simulations. With that note: Civilization, Europa Universalis, Crusader Kings, Victoria, Cities: Skylines, Universe Sandbox², Mass Effect, Fallout, Bioshock, Skyrim, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Phoenix Wright, Legend of Zelda, Sonic, Super Mario.
The six things I could never do without
• Intimacy
• Curiosity
• Purpose
• Order
• Authenticity
• Perserverance
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How my mind works, how to improve the ways I think while preserving the unique patterns that I like, and how I can learn from my past; I’m a big believer in neuroplasticity. I also think about science or one of my current fascinations, and how to improve my interpersonal relationships.
On a typical Friday night I am
If I'm not working in the lab, I'm either hanging out downtown (or wandering around catching pokemon) or playing board games with friends.
You should message me if
If you're at least a little nerdy or appreciate someone who is, enjoy intellectual stimulation, and are emotionally sensitive.
