My self-summary
I read somewhere that one's personality can be shaped by the fictional character's they enjoy. If true I am an amalgamation of dozens of space captains, a 'who's who' of mad scientists, several Emporers, and a mix of valiant knights and swashbuckling rogues thrown in for good measure.

Although I like to imagine myself as some epic figure, I'm really just a geeky, gregarious, imaginative and introverted science guy getting by the best he can.
What I’m doing with my life
I spend most of my day tinkering with the building blocks of life and trying to figure out how they work as I pursue my PhD at UCSD.

In the evenings I train and teach in Historical European Martial Arts (sword fighting from 16th Century Italy). And on weekends I help run the San Diego Lightsaber Team (sword fighting from long ago in a galaxy far far away).
I’m really good at
Turning everything into a experiment.
Dry humor.
Fighting and winning duels.
Putting things off 'till tomorrow. (I'll work on this last one, starting tomorrow.)
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm as blond as a Lannister.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Music: All the major classic rock groups of the 60s 70s and 80s,
Alt-J, The Mountain Goats, Odesza, Chvrches are some of my more modern favorites.

Movies: Star Trek, Star Wars, Pirate Radio, Wall-E, Shaun of the Dead are probably my top movies.

TV: I'm a huge Star Trek nerd. Also love Battlestar Galactica, Game of Thrones, Dr. Who, Walking Dead and Mythbusters.

Books: Huge scifi fan, I love Vonnegut, Heinlein, Niven and Asimov. The Kingkiller Chronicles and Game of Thrones has gotten me into more fantasy recently, so I'm taking suggestions as to what to read next.

Food: Cheese, beer, scotch, sushi, sandwiches of all types, and a good steak.
Six things I could never do without
1) Friends.
2) Good cheese and scotch
3) Stellar conversation
4) Podcasts and audiobooks.
5) A trusty sword, stick or lightsaber.
6) Science!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I am often lost in my own thoughts, mulling over data from work, running fencing drills in my head, daydreaming in a far off world, or just trying to make sense of this one.
On a typical Friday night I am
Either, unwinding by grabbing a beer or a show at the local watering hole with some friends;
Geeking out and playing boardgames and RPGs;
Curling up with a glass of scotch and a good book in a comfy chair.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
The ocean frightens me a bit, I'm a mountain boy.
You should message me if
You can blind me with science or dazzle me with charm.
