My self-summary
So here's a few things about me in no particular order:

-I'm a Floridian who happened to be born in the wrong state (Connecticut). I came down to Tampa about 20 years ago and fell in love with this place.
-I'm a T-shirt and sandals kind of guy and a huge parrothead.
-Every now and then I can sit in a hammock and stare at the sky for hours.
-I care about what's going on in the world.
-I believe that knowing whether a person likes Elvis better than the Beatles (or vice versa) speaks volumes more about them than knowing if they're liberal or conservative. That goes double for their preference of chocolate or vanilla ice cream.
-I'm a published writer and an amateur photographer so I definitely fall into the "creative" category.
-Sometimes I just like to drive around with no particular place to go.
-I'm addicted to all forms of media. I love music and movies and books and have very diverse tastes when it comes to all of them. I especially love movies whether in the movie theater or a DVD on my home theater.
-I own my home and I'm sensible with money.
-I can still just lay contentedly on the floor and listen to music for hours. And I have a vinyl collection. Yes... I'm that guy.
-I have dogs and a lanai full of plants, so I'm responsible enough to take care of other living things.
-I have clear goals and a stable career which I enjoy.
-I have a fairly active social life and a group of very close friends who are like family to me.
-I carry no baggage from previous relationships other than the hindsight to have learned from them.
-I like to hang with my friends at a relaxed not-very-crowded bar, but I outgrew the club thing after college.
-Sometimes I prefer the company of animals to others and I find nothing wrong with that.
-I believe that there is still a little magic left in the world as long as you know where to look.
-I once shot a man in Reno just to watch him die.

Ok I stole that last one from a song lyric, but you get the point ;)

In a nutshell, I work very hard at keeping all aspects of my life in balance; I've turned relaxation into an art form; I love to talk; I love to think; I love my family, my friends and my dogs. I'm generally just a good person and find no shame in that.
What I’m doing with my life
By day I'm a Risk Management Coordinator for one of the big 4 auditing firms and by night I'm a freelance writer and author.
I’m really good at
Adopting, rehabilitating and loving dogs that others have given up on. Speaking from the heart. Communicating with honesty and integrity. Listening to people and actually digesting and acknowledging what they have to say rather than waiting for an opportunity to speak. Carrying on the italian tradition of cooking for the people I care about as a direct expression of love (a skill taught to me by my grandmothers). One of my co-workers recently told me that I'm very good at defusing emotion in tense situations while still retaining compassion.
The first things people usually notice about me
I look people directly in the eyes.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm both a media junkie and a critic. If I can watch it, listen to it, or read it and it makes me think afterwards, there's a good chance I'll spend an inordinate amount of time focusing on it. I have huge lists of favorites for all different reasons. Here's just a few favorites I've recently enjoyed which left an impression on me:

Books: American Gods by Neil Gaiman, Eating the Dinosaur by Chuck Klosterman, What the Dog Saw by Malcom Gladwell, The Thief of Always by Clive Barker, The LOST Encyclopedia, A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin. Movies: Valhalla Rising, Bottle Shock, Inception, The Road, Centurion. Shows: Game of Thrones, Arrow, How I Met Your Mother, The Walking Dead, Being Human, The Big Bang Theory, Doctor Who. Bands: Iron & Wine, Midlake, Broken Bells, Enter the Haggis, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Gaslight Anthem, Kings of Convinience, The Subdudes, Black Taxi, Bright Light Social Hour, Band of Horses, Rilo Kiley. Singer(s): Nick Drake, Jack Johnson, Donovan Frankenreiter, Alexi Murdoch, Xavier Rudd, Amos Lee.

Food is somewhat different than media so lets just say my favorite type of foods are: Italian, Mexican and Asian. I also grew up on the coast in the northeast so I have a lot of love for every kind of seafood. Favorite Restaurants: Boca, Peligia Trattoria, Datz, Cantina Laredo, Copperfish, Roy's, Origami, the Mermaid Tavern, Ulele
Six things I could never do without
My family, my dog, my freedom, my laptop for writing (athough in a pinch a pen and a notebook would suffice) and some wind in my sails.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I'm definately a thinker, so quite honestly I'll spend time ruminating on just about anything. Last night I was thinking about Modal Realities and the concept of the Multiverse. 30 minutes later I was brooding over the Yankees' latest pitching trades. I ended off thinking about what kind of home improvement projects I could do next.
On a typical Friday night I am
I tend to go out and do things on Saturday nights whereas Fridays usually lean towards time to myself. Cooking, a long walk with the dog, reading and listening to music out on the lanai, writing, home improvement, catching a baseball game on TV or a movie on my home theatre and gaming tend to be how I fill my Friday nights. That isn't to say I won't go out on a Friday if there's something fun to do...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm a triskadekaphobic, which manifests itself in funny ways sometimes. I'll never walk out of the door with only 13 dollars in my pocket, I'll never get out of an elevator on the 13th floor and I'll never sit in row 13 on a plane (which is kind of stupid because you never hear of a plane crashing and only the passengers in row 13 dying, but then again, phobias are never rational)
You should message me if
Message me if you're looking for an intelligent, decent, guy who has his act together. Being drama-free is a plus ;)

Also if you're okay with meeting in person relatively quickly. I'm not the biggest fan of spending weeks emailing and talking on the phone. It's much easier to judge chemistry in person.
