My self-summary
My name's Brian. I watch a lot of movies and write about them, I see a lot of concerts and should write about them, I root for the Cubs, I wish I could go skiing, golfing or biking more often, and I always enjoy a good craft beer. I'm forever a Chicagoan (okay fine, you got me, the suburbs), but I consider myself an Honorary Hoosier and love being a newly minted Angeleno.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm originally from Chicago, came out here for grad school at USC, now I'm living the to speak. Welcome to the rest of my life. I'm a journalist and I write about movies and entertainment currently at a Hollywood trade.
I’m really good at
Hating my writing after re-reading it
Guitar and sometimes piano
Wasting time on social media
Quoting The Simpsons and Jerry Seinfeld routines
Making conversation
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Movies: When people ask my favorite movie ever, I tell them The Princess Bride, but 2001, Apocalypse Now, Rashomon, Psycho, Breathless, Metropolis and The Godfather are certainly among the best ever. This year, my favorites have included Baby Driver, Logan, Get Out, Beauty and the Beast, a small Netflix indie called Tramps, NOT Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and the lovely new Studio Ghibli film (they're all lovely, really) called The Red Turtle.

Music: My favorite bands are The Beatles, Arcade Fire, Radiohead, U2, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Green Day, and on and on. But I'm much more often listening to new stuff from mostly Pitchfork approved acts and seeing at least a couple of concerts a month. Some of those new records include Japandroids, Mac DeMarco, Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty, Spoon, Ty Segall, Pinegrove, Tennis, LCD Soundsystem and many, many more.

TV: I could just say The Simpsons and leave it at that. But also Breaking Bad, House of Cards, Seinfeld, 30 Rock, Colbert, John Oliver, Sam Bee, Seth, Parks and Rec, Arrested Development, Boardwalk Empire, Louie, True Detective (S1), Girls, and I have a lot more to catch up on, so don't judge me.

Most recently I've read "Your Favorite Band is Killing Me" by Steven Hyden, "But What If We're Wrong" by Chuck Klostermann, "Modern Romance" by Aziz Ansari, and am currently reading "The Disaster Artist." I read more non-fiction than fiction... and oh yeah, Harry Potter.

Food: Anything Italian, anything Mexican, most seafood, most Chinese food, classic cheeseburgers with all the 'fixins, barbecue ribs, pizza and dogs from Chicago and nowhere else, ice cream, anything with chocolate, peanut butter banana smoothies, all things Breakfast, Cadbury Creme Eggs, foods I haven't tried yet
Six things I could never do without
1. My family, even my annoying sister
2. My laptop
3. My iPod Classic
4. Contacts and glasses
5. Sarcasm
6. List making
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Politics, unfortunately. Kind of hard to avoid
My fantasy team(s)...way too much really
What concert I'll see next
What I hope my career will look like in a few years
On a typical Friday night I am
I love spending an evening with friends at a bar with a good craft brew or Jack and Coke in hand. If I'm not there, I'm at the movie theater or at a concert, maybe spending the night watching Netflix.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
My combination of dancing and air guitar playing while listening to music falls somewhere in between Michael Cera in Scott Pilgrim and Thom Yorke wildly flailing in this video:
You should message me if
Please do message me first. That would be amazing. I promise I will be funnier in person than in how ever many characters an appropriate OkCupid first message/pickup line should be.
