My self-summary
First things first: I'm partly employed and steadily working up to a "good enough to save up and move to California to pursue my dreams" income. I know this will deter many or most people reading this profile, but look on the bright side: if I'm admitting something like that on here, what are the odds I'd bother lying about anything?

Seriously, though, I value being honest and straightforward on a level few people do. If I even see a fictional character lie to, say, a partner, I tend to get pretty annoyed at their choice. Life's too short to pretend. Spend time with people you click with and respect!

My profile may one day benefit from not resembling a Russian novel. If only I knew how to do that.

I grew up around here, but had a lot of life experience becoming a new incarnation of myself in NYC for 6 years. Turns out a lot of cities are pricy.
What I’m doing with my life
To hell with the old version of this section. Here we go:

Finding a way to pursue the Hollywood acting scene, especially for someone without rich parents, is notoriously difficult, and heavily associated with cliches about waiting tables until throwing oneself into an active volcano in frustration. Many consider it insurmountable. Me? I have to go for it anyway, because I'm done settling for less. Not happening in the next 3 months, realistically, but I can't afford not to go for it at this point. Time to find feasible ways to make more money so I'm not stuck here for too much longer. If life isn't lived according to your own values, it's just stagnant, unhealthy, and circular.

My other pursuits include visual art, music, and writing, and have for a long time.
I’m really good at
Massage. Probably not the best ever, but I dated a therapist, which taught me a thing or two.

Critical thinking, which should be a core requirement in all schooling. Fat chance of that with the new administration. Hyuk!

Writing. I really need to market myself with this, because it's often effortless.

Impressions/dialects.

Acting. I'm much better for screen/voice acting than stage, but I have done some stage work, which is like a career military vet saying he's done some Vietnam work.

Remembering things in detail indefinitely. I once remembered an instrumental for over 20 years, and was finally able to identify it just by humming the main melody into a website so a person could identify it.
The first things people usually notice about me
I look like Billy Bob Thornton, but have yet to really insult Canadians.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
(A) Fantasy, science fiction, Humor-driven books, history, crime thrillers, but really, as with any medium, I seek out whatever I expect to relate to, such as:

Anything on mythology/paganism/heathenism. I'm just into the stories/imagery.

Psychology, Crime fiction, Philip K. Dick, world history, nything about lucid dreaming, comics, manga, books on art.

(B) Too many to list currently. Will revise this soon. Here are just a few genres:

Comedy(surely my overall focal point in fiction in general)
Sci-fi
Various indie
Fantasy
Crime drama
Other dramas

(C)
Shows I'm really into include:

Mozart in the Jungle, You're the Worst, Red Oaks, Goliath, Vice Principals, Scream Queens, South Park, Red Dwarf, Rake, Fargo, Silicon Valley, Cheers, True Detective, Banshee, Kaiji, Blake's 7, Lexx, Farscape, Monster, One Piece, Freaks and Geeks, Skins, An Idiot Abroad, True Blood, Twin Peaks, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Justified, Community, Orange is the New Black, Trailer Park Boys, Luther, Pushing Daisies, Weeds, Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes saga, Doctor Who(in the original run and this one, especially when Russell T. Davies doesn't write the episode,) The Drunken Peasants Podcast, ...and Miami FUCKING Vice. Best show Giancarlo Esposito's ever had a role in. Yep. I said it.

(D)

Indie rock, Power Pop, Alternative rock
Trance
Techno
House
Italo-disco
Electronic in general
Post-punk
Neo-folk
Goth-rock
Industrial
Metal
Darkwave
1980s pop, indie rock and electronic(I am the biggest '80s fan you'll meet, and music is only the beginning here.)

(E) I'm pescetarian. Not very picky about food, but some's better than others, and I like most things originating from the Far East or Europe that are within my dietary restrictions. Speaking of food, I also have a strong urge to see Anthony Bourdain pummeled into humility, but that would take more stamina than any Olympic-level athlete has ever had.
The six things I could never do without
Freedom of expression

My sense of humor. I'm fairly clownish, in a non-juggalo kind of way.

Art and fiction--including any form--music/movies/TV shows/books/comics/stand-up comedy. I'll also include creating art here as a need.

Non-internet social interaction. Do you miss the days when there was more of that as much as I do?

Other parts of the world/country to take interest in and travel to.

Lucid dreaming is too badass for words. I'm working on getting way better at it. Major project, but not that time-consuming. ;)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Aesthetic/the arts

How to live in a way compatible with my own values and not waste time with dishonesty

The 80s, of which I am a lifelong non-ironic fan(I can say that about ABBA and progressive rock as well, by the way.)

How to be increasingly non-dogmatic

How to be as open as possible on this profile
On a typical Friday night I am
Making the most of it, even if nothing's going on with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I used to actually think the Police Academy movies were funny back when I was nine years old. That's old enough to know better.

I don't post every random fact about myself on here, but you can ask me anything. I'm extremely open, and unashamed of almost anything someone could ask me about. The first paragraph in this section is a rare exception.

I'm all for making progress in life, but have no respect whatsoever for age roles, such as doing/not doing something at age X simply because "that's what people do." If you disagree, you'll hate me almost as much as I hate Pat Sajak.
You should message me if
You feel that we share enough interests.

You can politely and accurately explain to me what's so great about Mad Men besides the sets and costumes(I've had this line in here for 3+ years and have received about one answer--but it agreed with me, and gave some insight into other reasons people inexplicably obsess over it.)

If you're just looking for friends, that's peachy as well.I mean it. I never approach or talk to women with the attitude that just because they're cute it's either beyond platonic or bust.

You don't have to be an atheist, but you have to be atheist-friendly. Agnostics are also atheists, though this is such a common misconception I don't get too riled up if people have it. If you think morality needs a god/religion, that's a major roadblock.

Oh, and please don't be an advocate of the ideas of Ayn Rand, Rand Paul, or Paul Ryan. I'd take Nixon over those clowns 8 days a week.
